Right now, arguably one of the most anticipated but least known about games out there is the new BioShock. It was confirmed to be in development at Cloud Chamber, a new 2K studio, back in 2019. It’s confirmed to be developed on Unreal Engine 5, and it’s rumored that the new BioShock game is a PlayStation exclusive. Overall, that’s about all that’s known though. It was said to be years away, and given the sheer lack of news since then, that’s obviously the case.
However, fans are hoping for some sort of tease, if not a proper reveal, sometime soon. Some circles have been passing around a website that seemingly teases a BioShock reveal at the Game Awards, but the problem is that it's not exactly what it seems.
The website in question is titled theresalwaysalighthouse.com, with the website’s name simply being “stay tuned.” Obviously, this is a tease for something and that URL is an unmistakable connection to the franchise. As Elizabeth reveals in BioShock Infinite, “there is always a lighthouse, there’s always a man, there’s always the city.” This ties into the grand themes of the franchise, where these three elements remain constant in an infinite universe of variables.
Some have come across this website and drawn a connection to the forthcoming Game Awards, but unfortunately, this is unlikely to be the case. While some fans are just now discovering this lighthouse website, potentially enjoying the idea of a BioShock in space, the truth is the website is not "new" as many claim. It's been around since at least 2020 and nothing has really changed. Indeed, "Stay Tuned" here likely means to stay tuned for quite a while.
Of course, there is some good news in terms of content for BioShock too. Some may have been worried that the new BioShock would take itself in a new direction, but this tease suggests the universal lighthouse, man, and city are all set to return. Of course, what BioShock city (Rapture, Colombia, or a new one) is a big question.
Now, just because this teaser is old doesn't necessarily mean BioShock news is still years away. The Game Awards is set to take place on December 9, and while it isn't connected to this teaser, it's the best chance to see something new for BioShock this year. Otherwise, fans will likely need to move their hopes to 2022.
