It's not as if gamers need another reason to look forward to BioShock: Infinite, since the team behind it changed the gaming landscape with BioShock, and looks to do the same yet again. Take a bit more emotional look at the horrifying war that has torn apart the city of Columbia, and the strange political forces at work in the latest BioShock: Infinite trailer from the Spike Video Game Awards.
Irrational Games has provided more than a few looks at the game, whether focusing on the mysterious and massive Songbird, the new skyhook transportation mechanics, or just how they would be expanding on past combat varieties. But with so much time spent exploring the new ideas at play in the sky-faring city of Columbia, there are still plenty of mysteries and twists to look forward to.
Just a few days ago the developers of Infinite released a teaser image in anticipation of the following trailer, hinting at more power players in the political struggles surrounding the characters of Booker and Elizabeth. While the trailer doesn't show too much new footage or areas, the music does a good job of encapsulating the doom and gloom that seem to surround the remaining population, and Elizabeth in particular.
Check it out now:
The shots are taken from several gameplay videos we've seen to date, but there are certainly some clues and hints present for eagle-eyed viewers. Exactly how much time in the game will be spent on the characters of Booker and Elizabeth, and how much on the battle between the various political factions is still unknown. But with a story this dense and meandering, and given the success of BioShock's narrative, it's hard to not look forward to the journey Irrational has in store.
BioShock: Infinite will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in spring 2012. Follow all our coverage of the 2011 Spike Video Game Awards for the newest trailers and announcements.
