The BioShock series is known by gamers across the world as one of the best-selling franchises of all time. After the success of the original BioShock in 2007, 2K Games began development on the sequel, BioShock 2. Over ten years later with BioShock: Infinite published and another entry on the wayBioShock 2 still manages to hold up to modern day blockbuster titles with its story and gameplay.

Set 10 years after the original game, BioShock 2 once again takes place in the underwater city of Rapture. After Jack's actions during the events of BioShock, players now assume the role of Subject Delta, the first Big Daddy successfully bonded to a Little Sister, Eleanor Lamb. Wielding the same plasmid powers fans of the series know and love, Subject Delta must deal with the new threat to what's left of Rapture.

Main Story Length

BioShock 2's plot revolves around Subject Delta seeking to reunite with Eleanor. Working with old and new allies, Subject Delta will also face off against Sofia Lamb, Eleanor's mother, and her Rapture Family cult. Just like Jack, Subject Delta will make moral choices throughout the story that influence Eleanor and ultimately determine a good, neutral, or bad ending. For most players, completing the entire campaign will take 11 hours normally, slightly less than its predecessor. If the difficulty is set to hard mode, however, the story could be extended up to 13 hours in most cases.

Getting All Power-Ups

Much like in the first game, players can find and purchase extra upgrades for Subject Delta while exploring Rapture. The power-ups have various effects such as improving the passive effects of tonics, carrying up to eight different plasmids at a time, and upgrading the effectiveness of Subject Delta's weapons. Finding all upgrade stations and gathering enough ADAM to purchase everything will add 3 - 3.5 more hours and bring time spent in the main story to 14.5 hours on average.

Audio Diaries

Once again, there are audio diaries for the most dedicated of players to find. Out of BioShock 2's 129 diaries, there is a mix of Rapture citizens, Andrew Ryan, and the various plots or ideology of Sofia Lamb's Rapture Family. This time around, finding all the diaries will take 7.5 hours to round out a full completion run at 22 hours.

Downloadable Content

BioShock 2 also offers two single-player DLC stories: the Protector Trials and Minvera's Den. Taking on the role of other Big Daddy models, players engage in familiar activities or explore undiscovered parts of Rapture. These side stories are related to the main BioShock 2 story but remain distinctly individual. Completing both DLC stories will add around 7 hours for a total of 29 hours spent in-game for most playthroughs.

BioShock 2 is available on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4.
