With Biomutant's release being just around the corner now, many players are excited to finally get to play a game that has seemingly been whispered everywhere forever. While impossible to make any judgment call, there seems to be a promising a combat playstyle inspired by Devil May Cry and its weapons and bosses the size of beasts from Monster Hunter. There are steampunk vehicles, mysterious NPCs, backpacks turning into some sort of levitating rug, mutant poisonous lizards, furry dinosaur-like creatures, mechanical arms, radiation-ridden bunkers, and much more.

The world of Biomutant is a crazy one, and players will have plenty of time to become accustomed to its quirks. There will be many NPCs in the game with whom players can form relationships that make them companions that accompany them on their journey, and anotherone way this can be achieved is with Biomutant's companion systems.

Players can also customize their characters to have more Charisma in Biomutant, one of the main six attributes, and that will unlock new dialogue options and it can allow gamers to talk their way out of encounters. With all this talk about companions and NPCs, though, many may be asking: is Biomutant going to be a multiplayer game?

Is Biomutant Going to be a Multiplayer Game on Release?

The short answer to the above question is no. Biomutant is not going to be a multiplayer title because it was designed to be played as a single-player game by THQ Nordic and Experiment 101, instead. This doesn't mean that fans of the game who were hoping for it to be one of those titles they play with friends and loved ones should lose all hope, though, because of a few factors.

Although the developer confirmed it doesn't have plans to add any content after Biomutant officially releases at the moment, it doesn't mean that it won't ever be the case. It wouldn't be the first time that a game that's become popular since launch sees the addition of multiplayer content, be it as free updates or via DLCs adding extra content. Another factor to consider is that games usually end up having a dedicated modding community if modding the game is a thing, and if there's demand from the players to have specific features added. This means that multiplayer could still come to Biomutant, just not as soon as the game officially hits the stores, though.

Why it Makes Sense That Biomutant Doesn't Release as a Multiplayer Game

The reason why it makes sense that Biomutant releases as a solo experience is that it still is an ARPG at its core, and it seems to be designed as an experience for players to enjoy through different characters, replaying quests, and choosing differently to change the outcome. This is something that not all RPGs successfully achieve. Biomutant has different breeds, classes, mutations, gadgets, vehicles, upgrades, mounts, and more, which means that every playthrough can be different, but multiplayer true to the story would likely mess with that or, at least, extend development longer than the companies would like.

With this premise in mind, it's easy to see why Experiment 101 didn't want Biomutant to be played as a multiplayer title, as it would have changed everything for the game, and Biomutant's length might have been impacted if so. Nonetheless, not every game needs multiplayer, so it'll be interesting to see how this single-player title lands in just a few days.

Biomutant releases on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 25.
