Biomutant, the upcoming action game from Experiment 101 and THQ Nordic, has remained something of a mystery, with gamers having few details to go off of in terms of its actual release. Biomutant gameplay looks promising, leading to excitement for the upcoming game. And while there's still no release date for the title, there is now a release window.

THQ Nordic's parent company, Embracer Group, revealed that the game will be released during this fiscal year, along with plenty of other titles, in a recent investor's call. That means that the game could drop anytime between now and March 2021, and while that isn't exactly a narrow window, it does instill hope that the game won't become vaporware, like the troubled System Shock remakes.

While it's possible that Biomutant releases towards the end of the fiscal year, it's a wide window, which means that a release could be around the corner. Embracer Group's investor call didn't dive into details about specific games, instead, lumping its release calendar together. It's possible that Biomutant is part of the Summer Game Fest in some form, either as a demo or with a trailer, though neither the developer nor THQ Nordic has confirmed that.

The reveal also begs the question of if Biomutant will be a cross-gen release. With the game launching so close, or possibly even after, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, it seems like a likely candidate to get the next-gen treatment, and would also explain why the game has taken so long to release since its reveal back in 2017.

Originally, Biomutant was supposed to launch in 2018, according to the developer's website, though that, obviously, wasn't the case. The only real explanation is that the game has encountered development trouble, which certainly isn't unheard of. In February, Biomutant's release date was leaked as March 17, 2020, though that date has come and gone.

Biomutant received a developer update that claimed the game was in its "final stages" of development in mid-February, so it's hard to imagine it being as far out as March next year, but it is still a possibility. Fans are just going to have to be patient and hope for announcements between now and then.

Biomutant is in development.
