Biomutant isn't supposed to be out in retailers until May 25. However, it appears at least a few copies of Biomutant made it into the wild a few days ahead of the official release. Just how many are out there isn't clear, but at least one gamer managed to get their hands on one.

The launch of the newest project from THQ Nordic has hit a few snags, including some performance issues for the PS4 version. The company also isn't able to get Biomutant to run in native 4K on Sony's next-gen console, though the game will be able to be in native 4K on the Xbox Series X - angering some who have been following the title's development. However, when one Reddit user provided proof they have a PS4 version of the game, the accompanying post didn't focus on the negatives.

Reddit user Level_Headed_Gamer took to social media to show a picture of the box and gave a bit of a review for what he'd played so far. He called Biomutant a blend between Jade Empire and Fable. The picture sparked a few questions from other fans who are wondering whether or not the game is worth picking up when it does launches next week.

One of the questions about the game asked about the performance of Biomutant on the PS4. Level_Headed_Gamer said he believed the performance was a "solid 80 percent," while adding that there are some stutters every now and then when the action is ratcheted up. He said the stutters could be annoying, and wondered if there might be a day one patch that could land at launch.

While performance was one focus, value was another. Another Reddit poster asked Level_Headed_Gamer whether or not the performance was worth buying a PS5 for. He responded that it wasn't worth the $700 it would likely take to get a next-gen console from scalpers, though he did say the performance is good enough that people can enjoy it just fine on the PS4. That response prompted a user to suggest if that person was interested enough in a PS5 that they were willing to drop some extra dollars, they should wait until there was a special PS5 bundle deal.

Whether or not Biomutant would make it worth buying a PS5 is up to individual users, but those who want to see what the game is likely won't have to wait much longer. There are still questions as to whether or not there is a day one patch capable of boosting the performance on the PS4. While the developer has said it had problems getting the game to run like it should on that platform, it hasn't confirmed whether or not it's prepared to fix those on launch day.

Biomutant releases May 25 on PS4 and Xbox One.
