The latest adaptation of The Crow recently wrapped up filming in Prague, meaning this long-awaited project is one step closer to release with Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghost in the Shell) in the director’s chair and Bill Skarsgard (It, Barbarian) in the lead role.

A new, rebooted film has been oft-discussed by both fans and Hollywood, drawing on the popularity of 1994 original, The Crow, which starred the late Brandon Lee as Eric Draven, a man on a mission to avenge the violent death of his fiancé in a burned-out Detroit. A reboot has been in discussion for nearly a decade, with many people loosely attached, including Rob Zombie and Aquaman star Jason Momoa.

According to The Prague Reporter, the cast and crew of The Crow have wrapped up filming in several key locations in the city, including a scene at Prague's Roofline concert hall, with hundreds of extras dressed in black tie formal attire. With Skarsgard in the lead role, the film is also set to star singer/actor FKA Twigs ad Danny Huston (30 Days of Night) with a script by Zach Baylin (King Richard). Producers include Molly Hassell (Braven, Terminal), Victor Hadada (Resident Evil, Silent Hill,) John Jencks (Honest Thief, Guns Akimbo), and Edward R. Pressman (American Psycho, The Crow, Wall Street).

The original film was based on a graphic novel of the same name by James O'Barr. The Crow is perhaps best known as the final performance of Lee, whose accidental death on set during production cast a pall over the release of the film. Several sequels followed, including 1995's The Crow: City of Angels, The Crow: Salvation (2000), and The Crow: Wicked Prayer (2005).

Fans of The Crow franchise, the graphic novel, and horror/action thrillers in general, all have been eagerly awaiting a potential reboot for the past two decades, particularly after the later sequels landed straight to DVD/streaming with little fanfare. The original film excels as a dark revenge fantasy set in a sinister crime-ridden city rife with violence and corruption.

The original The Crow film has been praised for its visuals and cinematography, as well as Lee's final performance. In this reboot, Skarsgard seems like a perfect fit for the role, with a great ability to inhabit both heroes and monsters, as seen with his portrayal of Pennywise in It.

The Crow is now in post-production.
