Big Mouth is one of the most outlandish and absurd takes on the adolescent experience, expertly entertaining Netflix viewers with the intense awkwardness that regrettably comes with puberty. While some unsuspecting teenagers try to come to terms with their newly-found sexual desires, a bunch of hormone monsters and other supernatural entities pop up to "help" things along, producing some truly hysterical results.
The Big Mouth storyline is jam-packed with diversity and side-splitting comedy, as nothing is too raunchy, disturbing (or gay) in Andrew Goldberg or Nick Kroll's books! Experimentation and embarrassment is the name of the game, which these fan-favorite characters deliver effortlessly!
8 Nick Birch
Even though Nick is the youngest in the crew, he is apparently not lacking in certain departments (and has a rather lengthy track record to boast of) which has arguably led him to have particularly high standards when his love life is in question.
Unfortunately for this poor lad, he has to navigate through puberty with the less-than-adequate Rick by his side, before cycling through several hormone monsters to find the right fit. Despite all his troubles, Nick still manages to get more action with the ladies than Andrew or even Jay does, but his (ahem) big mouth generally tends to ruin things before they can get hot and heavy.
7 The Shame Wizard
Not many viewers could successfully declare that they have never had a personal run-in with the Shame Wizard at some point in their lives, and his cringe-worthy contribution to the Department of Puberty has been successful and memorable.
As that niggly voice in the back of one's mind during a nefarious act, the Shame Wizard takes great delight in spreading misery and mortification in his wake by not-so-subtly reminding people that they do have a conscience, and it is judging their every move! This rather sadistic dildo-enthusiast is rendered useless around Coach Steve and has a love-hate relationship with Andrew (while things with Maury can get rather steamy!)
6 Jessi Glaser
Jessi portrays how the issues surrounding puberty can differ for a popular kid, but cause just as confusing and embarrassing results as any other adolescent's experiences might. This insubordinate, troubled teen always has her friends' backs (however, in the most sarcastic way possible) and is far from being the typical manic pixie dream girl.
After dabbling with Nick, Jay, and Michelangelo, the whole Jessi, Ali, and Samira Love Triangle fiasco adds an amusing lesbian twist to her storyline, while the Lovebug Sonya and raunchy Connie cheer their ward on from the sidelines. Will Jessi follow in her mother's footsteps? Only time will tell!
5 Andrew Glouberman
Andrew is essentially the main character of Big Mouth and takes the role of the socially awkward, highly anxious nerd type who doesn't stand a chance in hell of making a good impression on the ladies (but tries, anyway.)
The young man struggles to find the right material to focus on during his self-loving fantasy sessions, but thankfully (or not?) Maury introduces him to the motherload, and Andrew's intense fetish porn addiction subsequently ensues. He has a huge crush on Missy but things always seem to get unnecessarily complicated (much to Maurice's frustration), however, that simply makes more room for Andrew's bi-curious tendencies.
4 Jay Bilzerian
Jay is the stereotypical example of what a one-track mind can do to a young man, especially when they are a sex-crazed hormonal teenager who lacks boundaries (and any kind of verbal filter!) This open-minded young magician doesn't discriminate when it comes to getting laid and excitedly welcomes anyone into his pants (including "inanimate" objects such as the beloved Pam.)
Although Jay's whole vibe might be a bit much for some, the fact that he stems from such a broken home helps to make him more relatable to the audience. His big bisexual coming-out scene is certainly a rib-tickler and Jay takes all the credit for his constant supply of perverted content (as he is the only one to lack a hormone monster of his own.)
3 Missy Foreman-Greenwald
Little Missy has arguably gone through the most amount of character development in Big Mouth, starting out as a shy, reserved goodie-two-shoes who just really likes her plushy, Wiggles. With the help of her hormone monster, Mona, Missy discovers her wild side and slowly embraces this whole puberty business, and pushes past her awkward phase of being the nerdiest Jew in the group.
This sugar-loving activist is bullied mercilessly by her peers, but when Missy begins to incorporate Black Pride into her lifestyle she reaches a whole new level of confidence and sassiness (which gets the boys' tongues sufficiently wagging in the process!)
2 Connie LaCienega
Connie is arguably the perfect companion for feisty Jessie, although their combined rebellious natures tend to cause quite a bit of trouble! She ensures to eliminate the shame and discomfort that Jessie experiences when her sexual urges take hold, and even introduces the girl to her lady parts (and all the accompanying bells and whistles!)
This protective, body-positive hormone monster acts like the big sister every girl dreams of, and she finds great satisfaction in showing her wards the ropes. Connie even takes a swing at giving Nick a hand by applying a feminine touch to his self-discovery and struggles to keep things professional with several co-workers.
1 Maurice Beverley
Maury is the main man behind Andrew's journey of sexual discovery, and he definitely hasn't sugar-coated any of the details (unless intentionally so, for kinky reasons!) This excitable hormone monster is always open to trying new things, be it homosexual erotica, sniffing panties, or kissing a cousin; there are assuredly no judgments here!
Maurice is very invested in his job as an experienced hormone monster and wants nothing more than to (quite literally) watch Andrew succeed in the romance department. His moral compass may be severely skewed, but this only emphasizes Maury's uproarious entertainment factor and adds a foreboding element to his influential words of wisdom.
