A 3 day countdown begins on the Gears of War website, leading up to a big reveal for Gears 4 that is apparently going to be both amazing and unexpected.
It’s an exciting week to be a Gears of War fan, as yesterday saw the reveal of the upcoming game’s cover art – featuring a cameo from none other than the legendary Marcus Fenix. Now, though, it looks like things are about to get a whole lot more intense, as the official Gears Twitter account has announced a countdown leading up to a huge new reveal.
The tweet states that the game’s “next big reveal is coming soon,” which it displays alongside an image of a countdown timer which is live on the Gears of War website. The timer, located here, currently displays around 3 days and 9 hours, meaning we’ll have to wait in suspense for a while before the announcement. By our calculations, the timer should finish on April 11th (this upcoming Monday), during the morning hours.
Gears of War‘s community director Adam Fletcher has further teased fans, stating: “You guys have no idea what is coming… but it is going to be amazing!” It’s hard to imagine what the reveal might be, but it’s worth pointing out that the game already looks to be shaping up as an amazing AAA title, judging by what we’ve seen so far alone. For example, many people were very excited to hear that Gears 4 will feature split-screen multiplayer in every game mode just recently, especially as that is what many people remember fondly from the previous titles in the series.
It’s been a long time since the last Gears of War game and, with The Coalition taking over from Epic Games, people had their doubts about the continuation of the popular franchise. It seems, however, that our fears were unwarranted as, according to Xbox Boss Phil Spencer, Gears 4 is making stunning progress. The game is also set to be something of a graphical showcase for the Xbox One, showing off what the current generation of hardware can do, much like the original Gears of War did for the 360.
The upcoming title will kick off a new trilogy in the Gears of War series, meaning that there’s a certainty of 2 more games to look forward to after Gears of War 4. Presumably, the next games will also feature the new cast of soldiers introduced in Gears 4 (or at least, those that survive). For now, we know very little about what to expect in terms of the game’s plot but perhaps, if we’re lucky, we’ll know more in 3 days time.
Gears of War 4 arrives exclusively for Xbox One on October 11, 2016.
