Beyond Skyrim, the ambitious multi-team modding project for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, had a relatively quiet 2018. After the 2017 release of the Bruma mod, part of the Cyrodiil team's grander project, Beyond Skyrim spent 2018 providing a steady stream of updates on in-development mods, from Kvatch to Roscrea to Elsweyr. Starting off 2019 with a bang, Beyond Skyrim is now ready to share the first step into Morrowind -- The New North.

The Beyond Skyrim: Morrowind team has been teasing the product of its efforts for some time now, but had yet to clamp down on a specific city or region to release like other Beyond Skyrim teams are doing. Glimpses of what would become The New North can be seen in the Morrowind teaser trailer released nine months ago, along with other regions likely planned for later. But it's The New North that will be the team's goal for now, the island region at the north of Morrowind including Bleakrock Isle and Sheogorad.

The announcement trailer features candid shots of the environments players will encounter in The New North, as well as the flora and fauna of the land. The architecture of the land is particularly eye-drawing, a mix of Skyrim-esque huts, ancient ruins, and cityscapes that will make The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind players nostalgic. And if the buildings don't, the mushrooms surely will.

As with each of Beyond Skyrim's other ongoing projects, The New North does not have a planned release date. The Morrowind team has been working on this project for some time and it's certain to take plenty more. Suffice to say that it'll be done when it's done and no one's likely more excited for that milestone than the developers.

The other Beyond Skyrim projects in development are also currently without release windows. The Expedition to Atmora mod appears to be coming together quite well, as is Roscrea, and Cyrodiil's Kvatch. Elsweyr, Iliac Bay, and Black Marsh continue to progress as well.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
