Series’ creator Michel Ancel posts a teaser image for Beyond Good and Evil 2, hinting at more details regarding Jade’s parents and their friendship with her adoptive uncle, Pey’j.
Right up there with The Last Guardian and Half-Life 3, Beyond Good and Evil 2 is one title that gamers are positively frothing at the mouth to get their hands on. But next to nothing is known about the game, with Ubisoft repeatedly having to confirm that the title is still in development and that the series’ creator Michel Ancel is still working on it. Not that the publisher’s clarifications have done much to quieten the doubters, though.
As fans continue to worry about the game, Ancel has taken to Instagram (the image is embedded below) to tease Beyond Good and Evil 2 once more. The image appears to feature a much younger version of Pey’j, the pig who is Jade’s adoptive uncle, on the shoulders of a man that many are speculating is Jade’s father. Pey’j is said to have been a close friend of Jade’s parents so, based on the lore, the photo makes sense. The caption also references “System 4,” the solar system that the first game is set in.
Naturally, many fans have begun to speculate that Beyond Good and Evil 2 will be a prequel rather than a sequel, or at the very least, it will delve much deeper into Jade’s past and her heritage than the original game did. Jade’s parents are not named in the original and the story surrounding what happened to them (and how and why Jade ended up in Pey’j’s care) are uncertain and fans would very much like answers.
Although the teaser image doesn’t tell us any concrete information, it seems that a proper reveal of Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in the pipeline. Not only was Ancel’s image linked to by the official Ubisoft France Twitter account (the account told fans to follow Ancel’s account “closely”) just days ago, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot discussed the game in an interview, telling GameSpot that “we have to come back with something crazy and something that will be great,” noting that fans “don’t just want Beyond Good & Evil 2, you want a fantastic Beyond Good & Evil.”
Moreover, with the title being one of the biggest games fans missed at E3 2016 and with the Beyond Good and Evil 2 release date reportedly set for 2017 (where it may or may not be a Nintendo NX exclusive), now would be the perfect time for Ubisoft to reassure fans that all is well and give itself plenty of time to get everyone (even more) excited before its release.
