Last month, veteran video game developer Michel Ancel announced his retirement from the industry, which had fans worried about the state of Beyond Good and Evil 2. Immediately after the announcement, Ubisoft reassured fans that Ancel's retirement won't hurt the game's development, which is in a playable state, according to the studio.

Now, Ubisoft released an update saying that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is progressing nicely. During the company's latest earnings report, CEO Yves Guillemot reassured fans by saying that Ubisoft is happy with the development of Beyond Good and Evil 2, and a gameplay preview is expected to release in 2021. At the moment, Guillemot didn't go into detail as to what players can expect in the upcoming game, but fans should rest easy that everything is as it should be. A release date is still unknown, but given that 2020 is about to end, it won't be before 2021 at the very earliest.

Meanwhile, Netflix confirmed several months ago that it would be bringing the Beyond Good and Evil franchise to film. According to the streaming giant, the film will be directed by Rob Letterman, who is known for his other movie adaptations of popular video games such as the box office hit Detective Pikachu.

The upcoming film will be a "hybrid live-action/animated feature" and produced by Ubisoft Film and Television, who also co-produced the Assassin's Creed film. During the film's initial announcement, it has been reported that the project is still in its early stages, and details about the Beyond Good and Evil movie are still being kept under wraps except that it is in pre-production. Hopefully, Netflix releases more information soon, including a debut trailer and a release date.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is currently in development.
