Beyond Good and Evil 2 continues to be an albatross of the gaming community. After years of being in and out of development, Beyond Good and Evil 2's most recent announcement has been met with few updates and fans questioning where the game is for over two years. While no new news is on the horizon for Michel Ancel's latest game, a streaming giant is going to make the wait a lot easier.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Netflix will be bringing the world of Beyond Good and Evil to film. The news also came with the announcement of a director who has experience with video game adaptations. Rob Letterman, the director of box office success Detective Pikachu, will direct what the publication calls a "hybrid live-action/animated feature."

Producing the film is Jason Altman and Margaret Boykin for Ubisoft Film and Television, a division of the video game publisher that had previously co-produced the Assassin's Creed film. Nothing else is known about the Beyond Good and Evil film outside of its existence and the few named personnel. The adaptation is in early development with The Hollywood Reporter noting that the project is currently in search of writers.

While Beyond Good and Evil receiving the movie treatment is a surprise, it does not break away from the rapidly growing trend of upcoming video game films. 2020 has been a year when the entertainment industry embraced video game content like never before. This is likely due to the success of numerous video game features, with this year's Sonic The Hedgehog Movie breaking box office milestones.

Ubisoft has been one of the more active publishers to expand into film and television over the last few years. The Beyond Good and Evil movie is just the latest of a growing lineup of film projects produced by the publisher. The production studio currently has six film projects underway with Beyond Good and Evil actually being the second one with Netflix, the other being Tom Clancy's The Division film project which is set to release this year.

As for Beyond Good and Evil 2, fans will have to wait until Ubisoft has something to say. The game was announced back in 2017 and has since received few updates. With Beyond Good and Evil 2 looking like it may just move up a generation, the upcoming Netflix film might be the only way to experience the creative world for the foreseeable future.
