The development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 has been a quiet process as developer Ubisoft keeps much of the ongoing work for the upcoming sequel behind closed doors. However, a recent job posting for Beyond Good and Evil 2's development team might give insight as to how far along the process has actually come while fans have been waiting for official news.

While Ubisoft continues to assure fans that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still coming, the developer has been limited on how much it has spoken about how this development is coming along. So, seeing that the company is still hiring programmers and developers to the Ubisoft Montpellier that are currently working on the title does at least go a little way to easy fan nerves about whether it is being prepped for release or cancelation.

In a recent job posting for an Engine Programmer, Ubisoft outlines the duties of this new position as someone who will be working on the game engine for Beyond Good and Evil 2. What's most interesting is that this title does not come with the responsibilities of completing or designing the game's engine, but more along the lines of maintenance and fine-tuning. This new position is specifically tasked with tweaking the existing code for improvements on structure and clarity without making any larger changes that would alter the overall behavior of the program.

Given both the qualifications for this Engine Programmer position and its specific mission statement, this is likely a backend programmer who is being brought in to hone in on optimization and bug fixes. Ubisoft specifically hiring for this position as a developer for Beyond Good and Evil 2 could indicate that the base engine for the game has been completed, and is in the final polishing stages before it is ready for release. It should be noted that this doesn't mean that other important factors such as visual and audio assets or even level designs are finished at this point, but the foundation for them is being smoothed over.

For anyone who has sat through the credits of a title from a triple-A developer like Ubisoft, it is clear that there are a lot of moving parts that go into the development of a single game. However, each position does have a specific role at different stages of development, and a position like this new Engine Programmer wouldn't be necessary without a finished, but possibly unpolished, engine to work with. So, with an engine that far along, Beyond Good and Evil 2 could be closer to launching than the silence from Ubisoft Montpellier might otherwise suggest.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is currently in development.
