The co-creator of Better Call Saul, Peter Gould, has recently told fans to pump the brakes on their anticipation for season 6, remarking that the original plan of filming before the end of the 2020 now seems unlikely. It's an unfortunate, but necessary delay for the 6th and final season of the critically-acclaimed show.

While Gould assured the public that Sony TV was doing "everything humanly possible" to begin filming, but that unfortunately there were still going to be some delays. Though the delays are obviously important for the health and safety of the team, it is a frustrating wait for the final, and likely most dramatic season of the show, with viewers waiting for the final reveal of how the prequel series will tie into the timeline of Breaking Bad.

The fate of character Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) is of particular interest, considering her pivotal role in the story, and her absence in the original show. Gould had some thoughts on the character, which he discussed at Deadline's Contenders Television event: “As the show has gone on, Kim has become the character we’re most concerned about, this season, it’s a matter of life and death for sure, and as it comes to a close, it’s a question of where her head is at. Is she going down a bad choice road?” As one of the few characters with no known future in Breaking Bad, the conclusion of her story is more up in the air than that of Jimmy's, and gives the creators more room to work with.

Season 5 in particular featured Wexler making more aggressive choices; going toe-to-toe with one of the Salamancas, and bending the rules more often. More and more she faces the conflict between doing the right thing, and working in the system. Gould continues: “Something that interests us is what’s legal and what feels right. Being with Jimmy has shown her... the possibility of cutting corners, doing what you think is right, and causing what you feel is justice, rather than play by the rules of the system." Whether or not that will end in success or disaster, however, remains to be seen when the last season of Better Call Saul finally premieres on AMC.

Better Call Saul airs on AMC, and past seasons are available on Netflix.
