Bethesda Releases a New Beta Patch Update for Skyrim on Steam

Bethesda Skyrim Patch Beta Update Fix

While Skyrim has provided one of the most immersive RPG experiences ever created, the title has had its fair share of bugs. With such a large open game world, the need for fixes is not too surprising. Fortunately, Bethesda has continually provided support for its magnum opus, by not only releasing the occasional patch but also a Skyrim Content Creation kit to help remedy some of these issues.  Yesterday, Bethesda announced the release of its newest patch, Beta Update, 1.4.27, which includes some tweaks requested for the Skyrim Workshop by modders and other various fixes.

The following changes are included in this release:

  • Fixed issue with downloading mods when you are subscribed to more than 50 mods
  • Fixed crash when loading a subscribed mod that has been removed from Workshop by the author
  • Mod load order functionality

  • Followers now sneak properly when player is sneaking.
  • Fixed occasional crashes when loading a save that relies on plugins/master files that no longer exist
  • Fixed issue where controls would become unresponsive while charging an enchanted weapon
  • Fixed issue where controls would occasionally become unresponsive while switching from third to first person while using the Arcane Enchanter
  • Fixed issue where controls would become unresponsive if activating a crafting station with autorun active
  • Fixed issue where keyboard would fail if Rename Item was selected before choosing the number of charges, while using Arcane Enchanter
  • Fixed several issues with remapping buttons while using an Xbox 360 controller
  • Fixed issue where pressing Escape button after fast traveling but before the loading would cause certain menus to stop working properly

Keep in mind that if you choose to use the beta updates, you will want to back up your saves or use entirely new ones, since these patches are still being tested and may cause unforeseen problems. Feeling skittish about losing your progress? You can opt to just wait for the next certified patch to be released, which will likely include all of the above fixes.

Skyrim is now available on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
