With nearly half a decade under its belt, the current generation of consoles is nearly its conclusion with the endless rumors and confirmation of new system entering the market in the next couple of years. This year, especially during E3 in June, showed the next wave of systems is looming, with speculation on the upcoming PlayStation 5 and confirmation from Microsoft of Project Scarlet, rumored coming in 2020. From the development side, Bethesda is already prepared to cap off this generation with a bang, while setting themselves up nicely for the future.

In an interview from The Telegraph (via Yahoo), VP of Marketing and PR at Bethesda Pete Hines weighed in on the ever-approaching future of consoles in the next couple years. At this year's Bethesda E3 press conference, Bethesda confirmed both Project Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 were in development, and are confirmed to be coming in the next few years. Both titles have been confirmed to be launching on next-gen, with Project Starfield releasing first between the two.

Here what Hines had to say about the next generation of gaming:

"I am curious to see what it looks like and how it's different. I'm privy to see stuff which obviously I can't really talk about, but there is also a lot that I'm not sure on what it's to look like. And more importantly how big a shift we can expect."

While Hines appeared reluctant to give specifics on next-generation, Bethesda's roadmap for the next couple of years looks promising for the company. While the rest of 2018 sees only the release of Fallout 76 in November, next year sees the release of the newest Wolfenstein DLC expansion from developer Machine Games, Wolfenstein Youngblood. There's also confirmation of a third mainline Wolfenstein game planned following the release of Youngblood, which sees what may be the conclusion of the originally planned trilogy for the reboot series.

Even after the release of the aforementioned titles, Bethesda has shown it's willing to provide years of support for its games. The upcoming release of Fallout 76 will be the first time the series has featured multiplayer, and Bethesda has already confirmed it will be supporting the game with regular content updates "forever."

Until there's an official announcement of any news of the expected new consoles in the next few years, there's still rumors to speculate on until then. The PS5 could see major changes coming to PSN upon launch, while Project Scarlet may have a dual-system release, offering a traditional home console while also releasing a lower cost device working as a streaming service. Of course, that information is largely based on rumors and speculation at this time, and fans will have to wait for Microsoft and Sony to share some official details to be sure.
