As if it needed to be said, the Battle Royale craze looks to be continuing on an upward trajectory, as countless studios are attempting to achieve the same success as titles like Epic Games' Fortnite. Naturally, though, not every video game company is going to follow and copy what's in vogue at the moment, and Bethesda appears to be one bucking the trend. As it so happens, the publisher and developer's Senior Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications, Pete Hines, recently explained why the firm won't be making a Battle Royale project any time soon.

Hines detailed what he looks for in successful game pitches, and the Bethesda SVP of Global Marketing makes it clear that the publisher and developer isn't out to mimic what the competition is putting out on the market. Regarding the matter, Hines said, "If it sounds interesting, if it's something the devs are clearly excited about, and it's something we think is unique and different, that's trying something new or doing something new, that's what gets me excited."

Elaborating further on the subject, Pete Hines declared that Bethesda has been able to solidify itself as one of the forerunners in the gaming industry by focusing solely on imbuing projects with their own unique sense of style and not by rehashing what everyone else is doing. In order to drive his point home, the Bethesda SVP of Global Marketing even went so far as to mention how bored he has gotten by other studios announcing a take on Battle Royale.

"If it's like 'Well, these guys did this, so we're gonna do this,' I can't stay awake. 'Hey, here's our Battle Royale game!' No thank you. Not even remotely interested. That's not who we are as Bethesda; that's not how we've gotten to where we are over the last 30-odd years. And honestly, I think our devs know better than to say 'Oh, we're just gonna riff off of something that somebody else is doing.'"

Taking all of this into consideration, Bethesda fans shouldn't expect to see the company's forthcoming games like Fallout 76 or The Elder Scrolls 6 receive their own versions of Battle Royale any time soon. With this being the case, the publisher and developer will be able to put its focus on the most important aspects of a title that need developing instead of having to cater to fans of the latest fad.

Bethesda's next game, Fallout 76, is scheduled to release on November 14, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
