With Minecraft Dungeons now out on many platforms, its time to get acquainted with the game and how it works. The best way to do this is to look at the items that can be used in the game.

As a dungeon crawler, it is heavily reliant on the tools used to get through the monsters in the way. Some tools matter for certain missions more than others. Some are always useful and necessary. Some are just a waste of time. But which ones stand out above the rest? And which ones are best left in the storage? Here is a list of the five best and five worst items/upgrades in the game.

10 Axe (Best)

Some would think that using a sword is the best method for getting through hordes of monsters in the early game. But if the player really wants to hurt their enemies, the axe is the perfect starting weapon.

Although it has a slower swing than a sword, it deals plenty of damage and its spin attack is lethal to most mobs. This is a weapon that is built for the players who prefer to serve a tank role in their party. They just have to make sure they have the health for it.

9 Daggers (Worst)

Duel-wielding weapons can be a lot of fun to use, especially when the goal is to kill a mob as quickly as possible. With that said, daggers can seem like a lot of fun to use. The player can slice monsters at a rapid pace to get as much damage as possible.

But the bottom line is that they just don't deal a lot of damage, and it may be better to just wield a bigger weapon in order to take care of the problems ahead. In other words, maybe hold on to a sword or axe, and only use these on occasion.

8 Crossbow (Best)

For the range players, the go-to weapon in these situations are bows. These help clear the way without getting to close to mobs. But if someone was interested in clearing them out at a quick rate and was sick of the charge-up the bow has, there is an excellent solution.

Crossbows allow players to shoot arrows off rapid-fire without a charge-up. It does sacrifice speed, but it's worth the harder hits. There's also a variety of crossbows out there, so if there's a particular aspect the player likes, they may be able to find the crossbow that suits their needs.

7 Hunting Bow (Worst)

It's not so much that the hunting bow is a bad weapon. It's just that it isn't that loaded. If the player is wearing armor that gives them an animal companion, like a wolf, they can use to make their companion target a specific monster in the field.

While this could be useful for those who want to give their companion guidance, the hunting bow doesn't really have too many other perks that make it worth using frequently. For the most part, the companion will attack any danger in front of them anyway and it's better to have a bow with lots of benefits.

6 Mystery Armor (Best)

Most of the time, items that market themselves as grab bags can be massive busts in video games. But if the player happens to get a set of mystery armor while they are trading with the blacksmith, they might be in luck. When the player gets the set, it will have at least two traits that are randomly generated.

While it isn't exactly what the full list of potential traits is, potential properties include 35 percent damage reduction, 25 percent melee attack speed increase and 50 percent artifact damage increase.

5 Spelunker's Armor (Worst)

It's hard to pick the armor that stands out above the rest because each set serves a different purpose to the player, and it depends on what role the player wants to play in their party. With that said, Spelunker's Armor may be among the lower tier.

The good properties are that it gives the player a 25 percent increase on weapon damage and that it provides a friendly bat as an ally. However, the bat is not that helpful, nor does the weapon damage outweigh some more loaded armor sets out there. Plus, does anyone like walking around with a candle on their head?

4 Boots Of Swiftness (Best)

One thing that is hard to avoid in dungeon crawler games, and especially Minecraft Dungeons, is being stuck in a situation with low health surrounded by mobs and not being able to escape quickly enough. The boots of swiftness, one of the many artifacts in the game, can help with that.

When activated, the boots will give the player a short burst of speed that can help them get away from something quickly. Or, if the player prefers to charge in quickly, the boots of swiftness can be helpful for that too.

3 Wind Horn (Worst)

There is one way that the wind horn can be useful to a player, mainly in an effort to fend off a lot of mobs at once. But the wind horn's major flaw is that it doesn't do anything beyond that to keep a horde of monsters away from the player.

With no damage being dealt upon its use, the wind horn can only do a minimum of just giving the player room to breathe. Beyond that, however, its useless in most other situations and may not be worth including amongst the three artifacts on the hot bar.

2 Totem Of Regeneration (Best)

Sometimes things get really rough, where the player may drink their health potion but lose their health too quickly after drinking it to take another swig before the cooldown timer is done. The totem of regeneration creates a circle where anyone within its radius can heal up.

It can serve as a last-minute save to keep health up. It's especially helpful in difficult multiplayer dungeons where players are in need to back up and gameplan. They can do so while healing and taking a breather.

1 Fishing Pole (Worst)

It's understandable that the developers of Minecraft Dungeons wanted to carry over as many aspects of the original game as possible, but the fishing rod seems like a stretch. Its purpose is to pull a mob closer towards the player and get some early hits on it while it's stunned.

While this could be useful for skeletons that run away from the player, having an item that solely focuses on one monster when there are plenty of monsters to deal with is counter-productive. There are better items to have at the ready.
