Sibling bonds have been a staple in media since its inception and video games are no exception. Depending on their roles, siblings can support each other on the sidelines or fight together. In any case, most video game siblings care deeply for one another, with many of them being iconic for that very reason.

In particular, most video game brothers, both biological and adoptive, are considered some of the most protective and kindest characters in video games. These stepbrothers are especially well-known for being kind brothers in their own right and just plain awesome people.

7 Takumi (Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright)

As one of the best-written characters in Fire Emblem Fates, Takumi is notable for his desire for recognition free from his siblings. Though he loves his siblings without end, there are moments when his inferiority complex, which stems from being bested by Ryoma, gets the best of him.

As Corrin's step-brother, Takumi was initially skeptical upon their return to Hoshido, and he was pretty stern with them when teaching them how to fire a bow. In true brotherly fashion though, Takumi quickly apologized for pushing Corrin so hard and tended to their wounds sustained during training.

6 Lee Chaolan (Tekken series)

Tekken's Lee Chaolan with Rose

The fabulous Lee Chaolan is best known among fans for his womanizing tendencies and flashy appearance and personality. Originally from the slums, he was adopted by the not-so-fatherly Heihachi Mishima and trained for the sole purpose of being a rival to his son Kazuya.

Though Lee holds both Kazuya and Heihachi in low regard, the same cannot be said for his stepbrother Lars, whom Lee has assisted by funding the Yggdrasil army and housing the army's troops. Due to being trained by Heihachi, Lee also possesses the signature Mishima fighting style, though he stops using it after Tekken 4.

5 Rean Schwarzer (Trails of Cold Steel series)

As the main protagonist of The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel series, Rean is the epitome of a kindhearted, selfless hero. He was taken in by Teo Schwarzer and his wife at a young age and raised alongside their daughter. In the years that followed, he became one of the best video game stepbrothers of all time.

While Rean is notable for putting the well-being of others above himself, even at the cost of his own health, this is especially the case with his stepsister Elise, of whom he is fiercely overprotective. To this end, Rean will often snap at even the slightest of perceived slights towards Elise.

4 Hypnos (Hades)

Hypnos' dialogue portrait from Hades

While he may not be Zagreus's favorite person to talk to, Hypnos is nonetheless very fond of Zagreus and is the very first to greet him when he emerges from the Pool of Styx. Like his mother Nyx, Hypnos is also a Chthonic God who is responsible for overseeing new, recently-deceased shades, though he often slacks off while working.

Although Zagreus is often mean to Hypnos, their relationship improves once the former settles a dispute between Hypnos and his twin brother Thanatos. In-game, Hypnos may tell Zagreus how to avoid a specific death or combat a particular enemy, which is usually intertwined with his snarky mannerisms.

3 Rush Sykes (The Last Remnant)

Rush is a hyperactive yet self-sacrificing young man who is casual toward everyone he meets. Initially thought to be the son of John and Marina Sykes, it is later revealed that the two of them adopted Rush while he was still an infant, sealing away his memories of when he was still a Remnant in the process.

Initially jealous of his stepsister Irina, even nearly abandoning her at one point, Rush ultimately vows to protect her and prioritizes her safety above all else, even his own. It is Irina's abduction by the Academy that motivates Rush to leave Eulam Island to rescue her.

2 Firion (Final Fantasy 2)

Firion (Final Fantasy II)

Having lived with his adopted brother Leon and his family, Firion is forced to flee his village after it is razed by the Palamecian Empire. Alongside his stepsister Maria and close friend Guy, Firion later meets Princess Hilda, who allows them to join her rebel army after completing some tasks for her.

Due to losing his home and family, Firion strives to protect those he cares about, even at the cost of his own life. When Leon decides to distance himself from the party out of regret for his dark deeds, Firion bears him no ill will, even reassuring Leon that he will happily welcome him when he returns.

1 Senel Coolidge (Tales of Legendia)

The snarky Senel Coolidge initially starts off as a hotheaded youth, openly insulting anyone he believes will get in his way. Despite his reckless streak, Senel has a soft spot for Shirley Fennes, whom he considers to be his sister.

As the game progresses, Senel cools down significantly and begins to open up to various people, allowing his friends to help him through various events. Even as he grows to care for those around him though, Senel still makes it a point to make Shirley's safety his top priority, even in the midst of the most desperate of situations.
