The idea of sitting through a story that takes tens of hours to finish sounds really tiring, but only video games could make such a concept work and keep players hooked through the entire journey as well. Such is the power of gaming, that even the most mundane tasks around can feel great to accomplish, especially if the set dressing is nice.

Some video games go above and beyond with an epilogue that sums up every part of the story pretty nicely, while also giving players something to chew on after the major bulk of the narrative is over and done with. The following games are especially great at crafting rich and satisfying epilogues that are a joy to see all the way through to the end.

10 Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is usually the first thing that comes to mind when people talk about fantastic video game epilogues. Anyone who's finished this amazing game will know why this is the case.

Red Dead Redemption 2 features an epilogue that is split into two halves, introduces a new protagonist, and is quite lengthy. Arthur Morgan will be sorely missed, but there's no denying that controlling John Marston once again is an absolute blast!

9 Dragon Age: Origins

Landsmeet in Denerim.

Dragon Age: Origins established BioWare's name as the best developer of western RPGs at the time. The sheer scope of the game coupled with an incredible plot made for a great time indeed.

The game ends things on a high note, with the player being able to interact with their party members and other important characters in the game. It's a great way to cap off a brilliant journey that occupied players for hours on end.

8 The Witcher 3

Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Ciri Geralt Isle of Mists Quest

The Witcher 3's epilogue mainly details the events of the various endings that players can unlock. The bad one features a fight against Weavess, one of the crones of Brookback Bog that stole Ciri's medallion.

Another ending sees Geralt spend his final moments with Ciri before she goes off to become Empress. The happiest ending of the lot sees Geralt and Ciri become traveling Witchers, which is great given the scare that the game gives early on with Geralt declaring Ciri dead!

7 Batman: Arkham Knight

Technically speaking, unlocking Arkham Knight's secret endings can be quite a pain. However, the contents of the endings themselves are pretty great and are well worth the effort.

After Bruce Wayne was unmasked as the Batman, most players assumed how crime in Gotham would fare. However, it seems that remnants of the toxin still remain in the atmosphere, and Batman has somehow molded this powerful hallucinogen to display his nightmarish figure whenever someone tries to commit a crime!

6 Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4

Far Cry 4's litany of endings have very minor differences, making the journey to reach these points more important than the end goal itself. However, the game does give a gut punch after players think that the strife in this region is finally put to rest.

The rebel leader that the player helped out ends up revealing a rather dark and sinister side at the very end. Thankfully, players have the opportunity to kill them as well, letting the area of Kyrat enjoy the fresh start it deserves.

5 Prince Of Persia (2008)

Prince of Persia 2008 Walking Into Castle

The 2008 reboot of Prince of Persia was a pretty mixed bag. Great exploration and cinematic battles didn't make up for the constant handholding and the rather simple structure of the game's design.

The game's ending did throw players in for a loop though, with most people assuming that Elika's life had been snuffed out for good. However, in the game's epilogue, players can actually unleash the power of the demon Ahriman so that Elika lives once again.

4 Undertale

Undertale is one of the greatest indie RPGs ever made, catapulting Toby Fox's name to great heights. This solitary developer had crafted a masterpiece that quickly became one of the most popular indie titles around.

The charm of this game is absolutely oozing out of every pore. The fact that the Pacifist Ending also lets players interact with all the residents of the world in a charming epilogue forms the cherry on top of a delicious experience.

3 Persona 3 FES

Persona 3 FES Answer Boss

Persona 3 had the honor of receiving an updated release that added a fully-fledged epilogue for the game. The Answer is a challenging experience that sheds some light on the plot and the sorrowful nature of the base game's ending.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, but The Answer definitely has some things going for it. As long as players get adjusted to the higher difficulty curve, the experience should be pretty engaging.

2 Deltarune

Deltarune might not be a finished game as of yet, but most people would agree that its two chapters have more quality than most fully-fledged games. Both chapters also let players enjoy a great epilogue in a similar vein to Undertale.

Interacting with the residents of the world makes for a charming time indeed. Of course, these epilogues have some great twists as well, which make them well worth watching.

1 Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops The Line

Spec Ops: The Line is one of the greatest third-person shooters ever made, in no small part due to its brilliant narrative. The whole game works as a sort of commentary on the desensitization of violence in video games and succeeds in many ways.

The ending of the game can take some wild turns... provided Walker didn't shoot himself beforehand. A convoy comes to rescue Walker, which can let players either kill everyone who arrived, die in the shootout... or just surrender peacefully.
