An RPG that was limited to Japan for the longest time, western gamers will finally get the opportunity to try out this unique strategy RPG when Live A Live's remake hits store shelves. The fact that this remake utilizes the same HD-2D style that Octopath Traveler did make it a great title for fans of classic RPGs to sink their teeth into... although it does open the discussion for more forgotten SNES RPGs that deserve more love as well.

After all, the console was blessed with a massive number of games, some of which didn't even make it to international waters. Given how little people speak about the following games, it's only a given that a modern remake in the same style as Live A Live would bring some much-needed attention to these forgotten gems once again.

8 Terranigma

Terranigma

An action RPG with a brilliant world and engaging gameplay, Terranigma is one of the most underrated games on the Super Nintendo. The sheer variety of levels in this game alone made it worth the price of admission.

Its brilliant soundtrack is the cherry on top, turning Terranigma into an underrated masterpiece that more gamers should check out. With a remake, remaster, or even a re-release, this game can get the attention it deserves

7 Brain Lord

Speaking of underrated RPGs on the Super Nintendo that deserve remasters, another name that comes to mind is Brain Lord. Published by Enix before their historic merger, Brain Lord is a great game for fans of the RPG genre.

Puzzles are a major part of Brain Lord's gameplay loop, which is quite fitting given its title. By blending the best aspects of action-adventure and RPGs, Brain Lord turns into a wonderful game that has remained unfairly overlooked for the longest time.

6 Bahamut Lagoon

Bahamut-Lagoon

The Final Fantasy series has received its fair share of spin-offs, with even the most inane and ridiculous games receiving a Western release. So, it's quite surprising and a downright shame that the brilliant Bahamut Lagoon remained landlocked in Japan.

Of course, fans who really want to try out Bahamut Lagoon can use the unofficial English translation instead, which does a commendable job. It's a great tactical RPG that fans of charming and quirky titles will absolutely adore.

5 Lufia II: Rise Of The Sinistrals

The Lufia series is one of the most underrated RPG franchises of all time, which is a downright shame given the quality of these titles. Each game in this series is full to the brim with tried-and-tested gameplay, a charming world, and characters that are pretty endearing in their own right.

The second game in the series is easily the most memorable of the lot, with a remake of this game still not doing it justice. Perhaps a more modern approach will help the Lufia series gain the popularity it deserves.

4 Secret Of Evermore

Secret of Evermore

Given the massive popularity of Secret of Mana, it's pretty surprising that more people don't talk about another game in the same vein — Secret of Evermore. Aside from the obvious similarities in their names, the gameplay and other such systems are also pretty similar.

However, Secret of Evermore never really got the love or adoration that was dished out on its predecessor. Perhaps due to its standalone nature, the game was pretty much forgotten by Square after its release.

3 Illusion Of Gaia

Illusion of Gaia

Another game on this list that was published by Enix is Illusion of Gaia, known as Illusion of Time in the European release. It's a pretty challenging game with unique mechanics and a great setting.

The story might feel disjointed at times, but the game has a solid foundation and great systems, making it a great title worth playing. A remaster of this game might be pretty unlikely, but fans would definitely love a shot at trying out a unique old-school RPG, and Illusion of Gaia fits the bill here.

2 Breath Of Fire 2

Breath of Fire 2

The Breath of Fire series is pretty popular, although these JRPGs haven't really seen any major releases for quite some time. That being said, this game mainly got popular with its entries on the PlayStation.

As a result, most people haven't checked out the Breath of Fire games on the SNES. This is a shame since this console has Breath of Fire 2 — a game many people consider to be one of the best JRPGs on the platform.

1 Soul Blazer

Soul Blazer is a great action RPG that has sadly become a forgotten relic over time. The game features classic dungeon-crawling gameplay that is pretty engaging in its own right.

With a modern overhaul of the game's visuals just like Live A Live, the game can turn into something truly memorable. That being said, it's highly improbable that Soul Blazer will receive this treatment... but a lot of people could've said the same about Live A Live before its surprise announcement.

Live A Live will be released on July 22nd, 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
