The Outlast Trials will test every player's ability to survive some of the most gruelling encounters they'll ever come across. Luckily, to help them on their way, players can purchase Rigs from Noakes, the Engineer. These Rigs will help players survive their Trials by providing them with different gameplay boosts and bonuses. As the players progress through The Outlast Trials, they'll be able to upgrade these Rigs even further, giving them the best chance at survivability possible.

However, some of the Rigs are more useful than others, and players may not know what they want to spend their hard-earned currency on. One of the most important things for players as they enter the Trials is to be prepared, and knowing which Rigs are better than others will seriously help them on their way.

4 X-Ray

The Outlast Trials X-Ray

X-Ray is one of the weaker Rigs in The Outlast Trials. The X-Ray Rig allows players to see the location of enemies that are behind a wall or obstructions, and tag them for their teammates. Intel is always a helpful tool for players, as it will allow them to carefully plan out their next moves. Unfortunately, the X-Ray Rig doesn't shine as much as the other Rigs, as it has very little utility.

Once upgraded, the X-Ray Rig does have a bit more power. Some of the better upgrades include 'Resources Intel' and 'Classified Intel' which allows players to find both consumable items and mission items through the Rig. For players running low on supplies, this can be a great way to figure out where to stock up again. 'Battery Transfer' is another great way for players to save some resources - this upgrade replenishes the Night Vision Battery whilst the player is using their X-Ray Rig. This upgrade reduces the need for players to look around for batteries.

Despite this, the X-Ray Rig is outshined by the other Rigs, which can do what the X-Ray does, but better. For example, the Healing Rig prevents players from having to look for healing items, as they can just use their Rig to boost their health back up. The Blind Rig is also an excellent scouting tool and will blind enemies pursuing players.

3 Blind

The Outlast Trials Blind

The Blind Rig allows players to place a mine that will explode - this will spread smoke in the area and will temporarily blind enemies for a few seconds, allowing the player to make a quick getaway. The best use for this Rig is to place it in doorways, or close to an objective, so whenever an enemy comes to interrupt the player, the enemy will be stunned instead. This will stall them, giving the player a few spare moments to carry on with their objective.

There are a few upgrades players can purchase for the Blind Rig to give it a bit more power. Some of the better ones include 'Recharge', which reactivates the player's mines after they've been triggered once. For players looking to loop their pursuers around a bit, this upgrade can be really helpful and adds a lot of utility to the mine. 'Prepared' is also a really handy upgrade. It allows players to use the Rig from the beginning of the Trial, which means they can set up their traps as soon as they need to, giving them that extra layer of protection. Additionally, the 'Deploy Technique' helps to shorten the awkward set-up time for planting the mines, making the Rig more viable when the player is being pursued.

The Blind Rig can be better than the Stun Rig in situations where the player doesn't have time to throw a Stun grenade. Unfortunately, the Blind Rig does take quite a few seconds to set up, and when the player is already being pursued, they may not have those precious seconds to wait.

2 Heal

The Outlast Trials Heal

The Healing Rig is a must-have for any team in The Outlast Trials. The Rig releases a gas that will heal the player and their teammates, which is incredibly handy for recovering from a sticky situation. For multiplayer teams, at least one player should have the Healing Rig equipped at any time, as it provides so much value to the group that it'd be a waste not to bring it.

There is an unfortunate downside to the Healing Rig - its radius isn't very large to begin with, so players activating it will have to run around to try and catch up with their teammates. However, there are some great upgrades that players can purchase that really help the Healing Rig to shine. 'Expanded Radius' makes it much easier to heal a group, although solo players may not find much use for it. 'Detox' adds a bit more utility to the Rig by allowing it to also cure Psychosis. This will help put the team in a much better state overall and prepare them for moving forward through their current Trial. Finally, 'Poison' is an additional source of utility, as it will slow down any enemies who are caught in the gas. This makes the Healing Rig the ultimate defensive tool and firmly places it as a solid asset to any team.

1 Stun

The Outlast Trials Stun

The Stun Rig does exactly what the name suggests; it allows players to stun their enemies for a short duration. It works similarly to the bottles and bricks that players will find scattered within the Trials. It's incredibly useful for slowing down enemies who are hot on the player's tail, and giving the player a few extra seconds to get away. This Rig is especially dangerous when combined with bricks and bottles, and really allows players to fight back.

There are various upgrades players can purchase to further improve the Stun Rig. Some of the best upgrades the player can get include 'Extended Duration', which increases the amount of time the enemy is stunned for. This is really helpful, as it buys the player even more time to escape from their pursuer. Another excellent upgrade is 'Prepared', which allows the Rig to be used from the very beginning of the Trial. This protects players from any early ambushes that might catch them off guard. Finally, the 'Expanded Radius' upgrade gives the Rig a bigger explosion radius, making it much easier for players to hit enemies with it. With all of these combined, the Stun Rig is the best Rig in The Outlast Trials; it's incredibly powerful, and an excellent asset to any player's team.

The Outlast Trials is available in early access on PC.
