Few cartoons in the mid and late 1990s had the level of appeal and success that the Powerpuff Girls did. The show was a smash hit for its entire run on Cartoon Network. It did so well that it even had its own theatrically-released film in 2002. The show was loved by girls, boys, adults, and critics alike.
It was the unique art style, superb voice acting, and incredible writing that made the show an endearing favorite. Many of its episodes hold a special place in the hearts of fans to this day, and they have also won awards. It's no surprise, then, that a number of these episodes would be reviewed and rated so favorably on sites such as IMDb.
10 Boogie Frights/Abracadaver - 7.7
This episode's first story, "Boogie Frights," is about the girls' fight against the Boogey Man. He and his horde of monsters create a giant disco ball and place it in orbit around the earth to cast never-ending darkness over the city of Townsville. Without the harmful rays of the sun shining down on them, Boogey and his monsters are free to throw an endless and destructive party.
Another spooky episode, "Abracadaver" sees the girls pitted against the reanimated corpse of a once-famous stage magician. Despite all of the powers the girls have at their disposal, they cannot easily defeat the zombie and his magical abilities that make him a formidable foe.
9 Telephonies/Tough Love - 7.8
In "Telephonies," the Gangreen Gang get their hands on the Mayor's secret hotline to the girls. By mimicking the mayor's voice, they fool the girls into believing they are him and send them on one ridiculous mission after another.
The plot of "Tough Love" centers on one of HIM's sinister schemes against the girls. HIM uses his evil powers to create a gas that will turn the citizens of Townsville angry and violent toward the Powerpuff girls. Now the girls must figure out how to defeat HIM and defend themselves while also not harming their friends.
8 Just Another Manic Mojo/Mime For A Change - 7.8
"Just Another Manic Mojo" is one of many episodes in which the mad genius, Mojo Jojo, attempts to destroy the girls. When the girls, while playing a baseball game, accidentally knock the ball into Mojo Jojo's lair and come to look for it, the evil ape tries to do whatever he can to keep the girls there until he can spring a trap on them.
One of the show's creepier episodes, "Mime For a Change" is about the girls' fight against a party clown who turns evil after he is doused in bleach and is drained of his color and happiness. The bleach also gives him the terrible ability to remove the color from anything he touches, and he uses this ability to take his anger out on Townsville and its inhabitants.
7 The Powerpuff Girls' Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever/Just Desserts - 7.9
"The Powerpuff Girls' Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever" is one of the more lighthearted and adorable episodes. During a particularly rainy day, the girls realize that no one is out committing any crimes for them to stop. With nothing to do outside, the girls have fun at home by pretending to have heroic deeds to perform.
"Just Desserts" is the sequel to another episode called "Supper Villain." Released from the prison sentence he had received in "Supper Villain," Harold Smith tries to return to his normal life. His wife, who is furious at the girls for ruining the dinner she had prepared in the previous episode, insists that they seek revenge against the girls.
6 Bubblevicious/The Bare Facts - 8.1
"Bubblevicious" is considered by many to be the best episode about Bubbles. Feeling embarrassed by everyone's perception of her as the soft and weak member of the Powerpuff Girls, Bubbles develops her "hardcore" persona to make people respect her. It works for a time, but Bubbles eventually sees that she can take things too far with her intensity.
Another lighthearted episode, "The Bare Facts" tells its story from the mayor's perspective. The mayor is blindfolded and kidnapped by Mojo Jojo, but he is swiftly rescued by the girls. Although he was safe, the girls seemed amused by some part of his ordeal. He insists they tell him what happened since he could not see anything, and each girl takes a turn recounting the story.
5 Knock It Off - 8.1
"Knock It Off" is an episode with a particularly dark ending. When Dick Hardly, an old friend of the girls' father (Professor Utonium) comes to visit, he hatches a plan to replicate the accident that created the girls. His plan is that if he can create duplicates of the girls, he can get rich by selling them as a type of living security system.
Dick manipulates the girls into giving him some of the Chemical X that brought them to life and gave them their powers. With it, he begins to mass-produce replicas of the girls. The real girls believe they will be used for good, but Dick eventually shows his true nature when the duplicates are used for less noble purposes.
4 See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey - 8.1
"See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" is a musical episode. In this episode, the girls feel overwhelmed by the villains, who are all overrunning Townsville. While exhausted and frustrated, the girls are approached by a mysterious gnome who offers them a deal: He will defeat all of the villains if they give up their powers.
The girls surrender their powers and the gnome does as promised, but the gnome becomes delusional once the townspeople begin to worship him as their savior. With the adoration going to the gnome's head and causing him to become evil, the girls need to find a way to restore their powers and set things right.
3 The Rowdyruff Boys - 8.4
"The Rowdyruff Boys" is one of the best action-intensive episodes. After suffering another defeat that the hands of the Powerpuff girls and being thrown in prison, Mojo Jojo decides to fight fire with fire by reproducing the accident that created the girls to create superpowered minions. The only difference is that he decides to make boys instead of girls, which leads to the birth of the Rowdyruff Boys.
Mojo Jojo's plans work far better than he could have ever hoped when the more aggressive boys are able to overwhelm the girls. Unable to take them down in a head-on fight, the girls must find a different way to best the bullies.
2 Moral Decay/Meet The Beat-Alls - 8.6
"Moral Decay" is an episode that mixes entertainment with life lessons. After accidentally knocking out one of Bubble's teeth and realizing that the tooth fairy will give people money for a lost tooth, Buttercup begins to attack criminals for the sake of claiming their teeth and cashing them in. Her sisters learn of this sick scheme of hers, however, and create a plan to teach Buttercup how wrong her actions have been.
"Meet The Beat-Alls" is an award-winning parody episode. The entire episode parodies the life and music of the Beatles band, with four of the show's main villains representing the four members of the band. These villains, knowing that they cannot defeat the girls individually, team up to form the Beat-Alls supervillain team.
1 Speed Demon/Mojo Jonesin' - 8.6
"Speed Demon" tells a dystopian tale. While racing back home from school one day, the girls fly so fast that they accidentally move forward in time, taking them to a version of Townsville decades in the future. In this alternate timeline, when the girls had vanished, the villains were free to spread chaos throughout the city. Now the girls must figure out how to get back to their time and prevent this dark future.
"Mojo Jonesin'" is another episode that seeks to teach its audience an important lesson. When some "normal" kids show jealousy for how awesome the girls are, they are approached by a stranger called Joe Overcoat (who is Mojo Jojo in disguise), who offers them Chemical X. The normal kids accept it, but they soon become addicted to the chemical. They return to Joe for more, but this time, in exchange for it, Joe demands that they must defeat the Powerpuff girls for him.
