Thanks to game publishers trying to get their titles out in time for the holiday shopping season, fall has typically been a busy season for the industry, with October and November standing out as two of the biggest months for gaming every year. That pattern holds true for 2022, as October saw many big new game releases, and November is no slouch either, soon set to deliver some of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year.

There haven't been many major new game releases in November 2022 just yet, besides Square Enix's Harvestella game, but that will be changing these next couple of weeks. This week and the following week are going to be absolutely massive for the gaming industry thanks to the launch of some of the year's biggest titles.

On November 8, gamers can look forward to the launch of open world Sonic game Sonic Frontiers. The first Sonic Frontiers reviews are out, and the game has earned a mixed response from critics, but it seems hardcore Sonic the Hedgehog fans will likely come away satisfied with the product. Many have praised Sonic Frontiers as being one of the best and most ambitious 3D Sonic games in years, but others have criticized the game for its bugs and repetitiveness. Regardless, a new Sonic the Hedgehog release is always a major event for the industry, and Sonic Frontiers' transition to an open world set-up makes it an even more significant release than usual.

Whereas Sonic Frontiers has earned mixed reviews, November 9's God of War Ragnarok has earned near-universal acclaim. Professional video game critics have heaped praise on God of War Ragnarok, praising it as being a worthy follow-up to the landmark 2018 release, earning high marks for its story, graphics, gameplay, and more. God of War Ragnarok is a cross-gen release available for both PS4 and PS5, so even those that have yet to upgrade to Sony's newest console can see what happens in Kratos and Atreus' latest Norse mythology adventure.

God of War Ragnarok and Sonic Frontiers are brand-new game releases, but the week will end with the release of a highly-anticipated remaster. Tactics Ogre: Reborn is a remaster of the classic PSP strategy game Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (itself a remake of an SNES game), and it will be available for PC, Switch, and PlayStation consoles on November 11. Let Us Cling Together is one of the most critically-acclaimed tactical RPGs ever made, and so Tactics Ogre: Reborn stands a good shot at being a hit. Fans will find out later this week.

Pentiment Graveyard

Tactics Ogre: Reborn caps off a huge week for the gaming industry, but next week is going to be just as eventful. Things will get started on November 15 with the launch of Pentiment and Somerville. Pentiment is a new RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, where players have to solve a mysterious murder. The game is notable for its unique art style that takes inspiration from medieval paintings. Somerville, meanwhile, is from one of the creators of the Limbo and Inside games, and follows in their footsteps as a 2D side-scroller with a haunting atmosphere and gripping story. Both Somerville and Pentiment are day one Xbox Game Pass games, so subscribers to Microsoft's premium service should have a lot to look forward to next week.

A couple of days later, on November 17, gamers can look forward to the launch of Goat Simulator 3. An over-the-top sandbox game where players wreak havoc as a goat, Goat Simulator 3 is a direct sequel to the original Goat Simulator, with the developers deciding to skip Goat Simulator 2 entirely. If it's anything like its predecessor, Goat Simulator 3 will likely be a hit with the streaming crowd.

After November 17, the next big day that gamers should mark on the calendar is November 18, as that day will see three major releases. The PC version of Spider-Man: Miles Morales launches that day, as does the latest entry in the Dark Pictures franchise, The Devil in Me, but it's safe to say that the biggest new releases that day are Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will kick off the ninth generation of Pokemon games, introducing many new Pokemon and giving fans the chance to explore an open world Paldea region in co-op with their friends. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the most ambitious new Pokemon games in years, and fans will find out next week if they manage to stick the landing.
