The nemuidere archetype, while not as popular as the other character types like the yandere or the tsundere, is still quite endearing among fans. Usually found in anime, the nemuidere archetype is also present within the large repertoire of JRPGs; the term itself is derived from "nemui" (meaning sleepy in Japanese) and "deredere" (which means lovey-dovey).

A character who is a nemuidere can easily be identified by their habit of sleeping for long periods of time for any reason at all. Whatever role they play in the game, these perpetually-sleepy ladies remain some of the best characters in their respective games, defined mainly by their love of sleep.

7 Caitlin (Pokemon Black & White)

Elite Four Caitlin about to battle the player in Pokemon Black and White

Arguably the most powerful member of the Unova Elite Four, Caitlin's strength is easily hidden away by her elegant appearance and drowsy mannerisms. Clearly searching for skilled opponents, she even advises the player to not give her a "snooze-inducing battle" upon challenging her for the first time.

In Pokemon Black and White, Caitlin's chamber in the Pokemon League is revealed to have a fancy bed with golden curtains, leaving little to the imagination as to how she spends her time outside of battling. Initially annoyed at having been woken up, Caitlin ultimately acknowledges the player's strength upon being defeated.

6 Karina (Rune Factory 3)

Although Karina is one of the more clever characters in Rune Factory 3, she is also one of the laziest. Rather than doing her share of duties around her family's store, Karina can instead be found taking naps, a habit that often leads to heated arguments with her mother.

Even when it comes to other menial tasks, Karina will go out of her way to avoid performing them, not wanting to exert herself any more than she would like. Upon getting close to Micah, however, Karina finds in him someone worth being active for as well as the motivation to try new things in life.

5 Futaba Sakura (Persona 5)

Futaba Sakura from Persona 5

The Phantom Thieves' navigator Futaba is notorious for being a recluse, having isolated herself in her room as a result of her mother's death. Because of this isolation, Futaba's physical stature is very weak, to the point that she will sleep for days on end if she is left unchecked. Even her stepfather Sojiro admits that her sleep patterns are the norm despite his attempts to get Futaba out of her room.

After bonding with the player, however, Futaba begins to slowly open up to other people. She starts to show off a more playful side to her by messing with her fellow Phantom Thieves, though her discomfort with unfamiliar social settings still remains.

4 Tiki (Fire Emblem series)

Tiki confessing her love to the Avatar in Fire Emblem Awakening

Present since the first game in the Fire Emblem series, the innocent and childlike Tiki is most known for being Naga's daughter as well as her millennia-long slumber. Although Tiki hates having to remain asleep, instead childishly clinging to Marth and Bantu, she must do so in order to keep her potentially continent-destroying power at bay.

While Tiki may have been more innocent in the first game, Fire Emblem: Awakening sees her as more composed, possessing a more realistic view of the world now that two millennia have passed. She longs to see her friends from the past once more, even seeing bits of "Mar-Mar" in Lucina but resolves to keep forming new relationships to ease her loneliness.

3 Sayu (Genshin Impact)

Sayu's best weapons in Genshin Impact

A resident ninja of Shuumatsuban, Sayu may arguably have the purest reason for sleeping out of all the nemuidere characters in gaming. Obsessed with her height, she operates under the belief that she will grow taller if she sleeps enough.

Sayu's goals may be pure, but she is not above sleeping in order to avoid her responsibilities as a ninja. As a result, her laziness has become quite infamous among Shuumatsuban. Despite this, the other villagers still have great respect for Sayu's abilities, suggesting that she may just be missing a true purpose.

2 Seimei (Senran Kagura: New Wave)

While the other girls of Hanzo academy are more upbeat and energetic, Seimei can usually be found sleeping anywhere she deems fit. Curiously, her dreams serve as visions that present her with a scarily-precise prediction of future events.

Though Seimei is rarely seen wide awake, she is willing to fight if the situation calls for it; true to her personality, she has no problem fighting in her pajamas. Her weapon of choice is an insanely large rocket launcher, a flashy weapon that serves as a stark contrast to her eternally-drowsy personality.

1 Meru Myoujou (1bitHeart)

Meru Myoujou is one of the last few characters whom Nanashi is able to befriend. As an employee at an accessory shop, Meru's behavior is borderline narcoleptic; she frequently falls asleep during her shifts and has a hard time holding a conversation due to drifting in and out of sleep.

Meru's conversations with Nanashi revolve around the latter trying to get her sleeping schedule rearranged, even taking her to a psychiatrist for help. Her preferred gifts are anything that stimulates the senses, namely the Rainbow Afro, Teeny Bikini, and the Palm Mix, the former two of which befit the nature of her day job.
