Jason Momoa is one of the multiple actors who started their successful acting career in long-running TV shows and only later moved to movies where they succeeded as well. Born in Hawaii in 1979, Momoa started his professional acting career in the late 1990s when he played Jason in the Baywatch TV series.

But it wasn't until his role in Stargate: Atlantis as Ronon Dex and in Game of Thrones as Daenerys' ill-fated husband Khal Drogo that Momoa rose to a new level of stardom. Since his acting beginnings, the actor appeared in multiple movies, some of which were accepted well by the audience and got high ratings on movie databases, such as IMDb.

5 The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part (2019)

The Lego Movie 2 Aquaman

Jason Momoa has an easily recognizable voice and even though he primarily acts in live-action movies and TV shows, he does just as well in animated ones. In the second Lego Movie, Momoa joined a lost cast of recognizable names, such as Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, or Channing Tatum. The second movie follows in its predecessor's footsteps and offers a mixture of humor and actions, as the heroes even get to visit space this time around.

Considering the fact that the previous movie featured multiple superheroes, it probably won't come as a surprise that Momoa reprized his role of Aquaman in the movie. He has only a supporting part but makes the animated Aquaman seem as powerful as the live-action one.

4 Pipeline (2007)

Pipeline 2007

If Jason Momoa fans want to see one of his least known movies and also one of the actors' first ones, they should find the 2007 horror movie. Currently, with only 90 ratings on IMDb, Pipeline is the hidden horror jewel of Jason Momoa's filmography. It centers on a group of people who did their best to forget their past, to repress it, but certain shared experience brings their past's darkness back to the surface.

The movie manages to build a mysterious atmosphere, one full of tension. It has a small leading cast which gives Momoa in his role as Kai even more chance to stand out. Even though Momoa's best-known movie roles were yet ahead of him at this point in time, he doesn't disappoint in the movie and considering he doesn't often act in horror pieces, Pipeline is a rare opportunity for Momoa's fans who like horror to see their favorite actor in this genre.

3 Aquaman (2018)

Aquaman Cropped (1)

After the (below) average critical reviews of other DCEU movies, such as Batman v. Superman (2015), Suicide Squad (2016) or Justice League (2017), many people wondered whether Aquaman's first solo movie would follow in their footsteps or became a success like Wonder Woman (2017). The second option turned out to be right as the viewers enjoyed the trip into Atlantis and seeing Aquaman's rise to kingship. Even though Aquaman isn't always the most sympathetic hero, thanks to Momoa's performance and the script, it's possible to understand where he's coming from.

The fighting scenes between Aquaman and his enemies as well as the banter between him and Mera are some highlights of the movie. Aquaman is also visually beautiful and the underwater kingdom of Atlantis is a place many DCEU fans would like to visit. An interesting fact is that before Momoa was cast as Aquaman, Matt Damon was considered for the part. But considering that Momoa already had experience with Atlantis from his breakthrough role in Stargate: Atlantis, it seems that he was the obvious casting choice in the end. And with Aquaman 2 in the works, Arthur Curry fans can look forward to seeing even more of their favorite superhero.

2 Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)

Wonder Woman and Aquaman in Zack Snyder's Justice League

Rating-wise, 2021 was a good year for Jason Momoa. When the original Justice League premiered in 2017, it wasn't such as hit and the reviews were critical. The unreleased Zack Snyder cut is not only longer than the original version but also makes a better use of the characters as well as the story overall. The good news for all fans of the actors, Jason Momoa's Aquaman included, is that they get more space in the movie and some interactions between Aquaman and his new allies are the best moments in the movie.

Momoa's Arthur Curry might seem brash and rude at times, but there's more to him than meets the eye and without his bravery and powers, it's likely the heroes would have failed... or at least had a much harder time fighting Steppenwolf and his army. Those who haven't seen the movie yet and would like to spend four hours in the presence of their favorite heroes, can stream Zack Snyder's Justice League on HBO Max.

1 Dune (2021)

Dune Jason Momoa

Jason Momoa's highest rated movie at the moment is also one of his latest. Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the science fiction classics that had a great impact on the genre. The 2021 movie is a second live-action Hollywood adaptation, but it was more successful than the first one, the 1984 movie Dune directed by David Lynch.

As such, it's more than likely that the audience will reunite with the heroes in a sequel, or potentially a series of sequels. Even though the focus lies on Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, multiple actors give solid performances in the movie, including Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Paul's friend, mentor, and also a capable warrior. Momoa brings gravitas to the role and as Duncan, is both imposing and funny at times.
