15 The Familiar Of Zero

At the Tristain Academy of Magic, every second-year student must summon a familiar as their companion. Louise de la Valliere is considered the weakest student at school, but she swears that she will summon a great familiar that will shine above all others. When it comes time for her to summon a familiar, she ends up summoning Saito Hiraga, a normal boy from Japan.

The Familiar of Zero is a very popular fantasy series, with four seasons in total. Watching the initially tense relationship between Louise and Saito slowly grow into a passionate romance is great to watch, and the comedy is top-notch.

14 No Game No Life

Two step-siblings Sora and Shiro are undefeated gamers. After a battle with Tet, a self-proclaimed god, they are transported to Disboard, where all conflicts are solved by battle. They arrive in a land called Elkia, and decide to throw themselves into the games to rule over all species of Disboard in order to challenge Tet.

No Game No Life is an exciting anime with lots of risky gambits and tricky ploys. Sora and Shiro are both extremely cunning characters, and the way they battle and cheat through each game proves it.

As she explores this new world, she accidentally unseals Inuyasha, a half-dog-demon boy who wants to find the Shikon Jewel so that he can become a full demon.

Ascendance of a Bookworm is an interesting isekai, as it isn't really about superpowers and fantasy adventure. However, it is an interesting look at medieval life, especially on the subject of making books.

A virtual reality MMO called YGGDRASIL is about to shut down after twelve years, and a player named Momonga decides to stay logged in until the servers shut down. Instead of leaving the game, however, he instead remains logged in, with everything appearing to have become reality and Momonga stuck looking like his game avatar. Taking on the name of his old guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, he decides to explore this new world and see if anyone else is trapped like him.

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They? is a pretty standard isekai anime with an interesting premise. This show is perfect for anime fans who enjoy watching characters use their powers in creative ways.

9 Arifureta: From Commonplace To World's Strongest

Hajime Nagumo, along with all of his classmates, is transported to another world to fight against demons. While his classmates all gain amazing powers, Hajime only gets a basic ability to transmute objects. When he is betrayed by a fellow classmate and left for dead in a dungeon, he must master his new power to survive.

Arifureta is darker than the usual isekai, and Hajime Nagumo, while initially a very generic main character, soon becomes a cynical and bloodthirsty anti-hero. While the series still has a lot of comedic moments, it is definitely more suited to fans of dramatic stories.

The Rising of the Shield Hero is a story of cruel betrayal, and Naofumi's struggle to fulfill his duties while trying to mend his reputation is a core part of the story. It's much less lighthearted than the other entries on this list, but fans of dark stories will find Shield Hero very compelling.

Subaru Natsuki is suddenly transported to another world, where he is killed trying to help a girl that he meets. He soon discovers that every time he dies, he is sent back in time and soon learns to use his powers to help him and his friends avoid a terrible fate.

Re: Zero is very different from the usual Isekai, as Subaru is unable to use many powers outside of his ability to turn back time, and his attempts to change the future are wrought with struggle and failure. It can be hard to watch Subaru struggle to pick himself off the ground, but that's why it's also so satisfying when he finally succeeds. Re:Zero is one of the best isekai series in anime, and its popularity proves it.

4 KonoSuba

When Kazuma Sato dies an embarrassing death, he meets a goddess named Aqua who plans to send him to a parallel world. After a heated argument, instead of picking a special ability or item, Kazuma demands that Aqua accompany him, causing the two of them to end up in the parallel world together.

KonoSuba is a parody of isekai anime, one that accurately mocks all the various tropes and cliches of the genre. Having said that, it's also one of the best examples of an isekai, and a bundle of laughs that won't fail to have audiences falling apart.

3 That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime

When a salaryman dies while saving his co-worker, he is unintentionally reborn as a slime with a litany of powers. Eventually gaining the name Rimuru Tempest, he slowly explores the world around him as he gets used to his new body.

That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime is probably one of the most creative isekai anime out there, particularly with how Rimuru utilizes and leverages his unique powers. He may be an unconventional hero, but it is definitely interesting to see how he develops as time passes.

2 Drifters

As he lies on the battlefield while bleeding to death, Shimazu Toyohisa is suddenly transported to another world, where he joins Oda Nobunaga and Nasu no Yoichi in becoming "Drifters". They fight back against the Ends, who are trying to take over the world while establishing an empire of their own.

Drifters is very different from the usual Isekai, especially since it makes use of historical heroes. However, it is fun to see important people in history come together, and Drifters provides a lot of dramatic tension and brutal combat.

1 Mushoku Tensei

An overweight, unemployed otaku is kicked out of his home, and as he regrets his life's trajectory, he attempts to save a high schooler from being run over and is killed. Miraculously, he finds himself reincarnated as Rudeus Greyrat and resolves to make the most of this second chance at life.

Mushoku Tensei is particularly enjoyable because it features a main character who uses his past life to motivate himself. His desire to not become the same kind of person he was before is very relatable and gives viewers a stake in his personal growth.
