14 Buildup To A Fierce Battle

It is the 44th episode in the anime. In the episode, Uvogin is attacked by the Shadow Beasts, who are very confident of winning against the Phantom Troupe member. Uvogin manages to crush them without expending too much energy, however, he starts to feel the effect of poison and the eels inside his body.

Kurapika decided that it is too good of an opportunity to pass up, so he decides to use his Chain Jail to get Uvogin out from the crater and put him in the car. It highlights the hatred that Kurapika has towards the members of the Phantom Troupe.

13 The True Pass

The episode follows Gon and Killua as they continue to improve their Nen. Wing teaches them about the different uses of aura and how they can come in handy in a fight. Then he takes a test to see what category Gon and Killua belong to.

Gon finally faces Hisoka in a fight and for the majority of their bout, Hisoka is able to dodge Gon's every attack. However, Gon finally manages to sneak behind Hisoka and deliver a solid punch to his face.

12 Guts And Courage

Gon's team is completely overwhelmed by Razor's incredible power. Razor manages to knock out Gon and forces him to use his back to return to the game. In the meantime, Hisoka is also injured by Razor's powerful attack.

Gon comes up with a strategy to take down Razor, but he needs Killua's support to pull it off. They succeed in getting Razor out, but he uses his back. Towards the end of the episode, Gon and Killua ready themselves for one final attack.

11 Assault And Impact

This is one of the most action-packed episodes in the series. In the episode, the Phantom Troupe exterminates all of the mafia. The Troupe's leader, Chrollo is confronted by Zeno and Silva.

The three of them are engrossed in an intense fight, which sees them use their strongest abilities. Zeno finally manages to trap Chrollo and instructs Silva to finish him off.

10 Signal To Retreat

Signal to Retreat is the final episode in the Yorknew City arc. The episode focuses on the exchange of hostages between Kurapika and the Phantom Troupe. After Pakunoda meets all the necessary conditions, Kurapika releases Chrollo, the strongest member of the Phantom Troupe.

​​​​​​However, Chrollo is unable to use Nen because of Kurapika's Judgement Chain, and so he stays behind. The episode ends on a melancholic note: Pakunoda sacrifices herself as she uses Nen to let the Troupe members know about all the events that transpired.

9 Great Power And Ultimate Power

The episode centers around the fight between Netero and Meruem. It is arguably one of the best fights in anime history, both in terms of animation and story.

The fight between the two was a masterpiece. Netero got an opportunity to show off his power against Meruem, and he took full advantage of it. The massive explosion from Netero's attack caused the ground below to crumble, and the two end up fighting inside a tomb.

8 Chairman And Release

Chairman and Release is the tenth episode in the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc, and the focus of the episode was on Gin and Ging. Gon was overjoyed to see his father for the first time in person, as this had been one of the main goals of his journey.

Gon apologizes for his dereliction to save Kite; however, Ging reassures Gon and tells him not to fret over the incident. In the meantime, Killua seals Nanika away.

7 Revenge And Recovery

Normally, Gon is a caring individual who doesn't like to kill others, but this episode shows him completely overwhelmed by his anger. When Gon and Killua confront Neferpitou, the Chimera Ant begs Gon to halt fighting for a while as they wanted to heal Komugi. However, Gon wasn't going to be swayed so easily.

In response, Neferpitou breaks their left arm to convince him. Confused by these actions, Gon finally agrees to wait for them to heal Komugi. Gon's actions are uncharacteristically despicable here; he was ready to let Komugi die just to get rid of his frustrations.

6 Past And Future

Gon toiled a lot to accomplish the goal of meeting his father, Ging. After facing many hardships, Gon is finally able to talk to his father at the top of the World Tree. The two of them have a pleasant conversation here; Gon tells Ging about his adventures so far and vice versa.

Gon is engrossed by Ging's stories and is particularly surprised when the latter told him that he planned to explore the world beyond the boundaries of mankind. It is fair to say that Gon deserved to have a sincere conversation with his father, and when he did, it was a beautiful moment that viewers enjoyed.

5 Monster And Monster

In this episode, Meruem arrives with a heavily injured Komugi and deactivates his killing aura. He asks Neferpitou to treat Komugi's injuries; Netero and Zeno do not interrupt Meruem and allow Neferpitou to start their work.

Meruem then asks Netero to take their fight to another place, to which the latter agrees as it would separate Meruem from the Royal Guard. The episode is tense and sets up the action that would take place over the next few episodes.

4 Charge And Invade

In this episode, Zeno and Netero finally start their invasion of Meruem's palace. Neferpitou sensed the two intruders after they come in contact with their En. Neferpitou tried to fight against Netero, but the chairman easily overwhelmed the Royal Guard and sent them flying across the sky.

Zeno's dragons continue their onslaught of the palace, and Neferpitou can only watch helplessly. The episode is both action-packed and emotionally powerful, gripping fans throughout.

3 This Person And This Moment

In one of the most emotional episodes in the series, Meruem, who is the main villain of the arc asks Palm about Komugi's whereabouts. Though she is surprised by Meruem's demand, she leads him to Komugi's place.

Despite the possibility of Komugi being affected by Meruem's poison, the two of them play Gungi together and continue playing until their final moments. The episode ends on a bittersweet note as Meruem and Komugi are reunited only to die by each other's side.

2 Anger And Light

This is another episode that sees Gon loses his composure and behaves irrationally. Neferpitou acknowledges Gon's threat and proclaims to kill him. Gon, full of rage over Kite's death, is shrouded in a dark aura and ends up killing the Chimera Ant ruthlessly.

Killua is shocked to see Gon transposed, and standing right next to Neferpitou's corpse. However, the Chimera Ant's corpse still tries to move, demonstrating their devotion to Meruem even in death.

1 Zero And Rose

"Zero and Rose" is not only an incredible example of Hunter x Hunter's storytelling but might be one of the best anime episodes of all time. In this episode, Netero and Meruem's fight is brought to a close. The intense fight between the two had viewers on the edge of their seats.

In a last-ditch effort, Netero uses Zero Hand, but it does no damage to Meruem. Thinking that victory was in sight, Meruem behaves brashly, only for Netero to use his trump card, Poor Man's Rose, to kill the King.
