The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting, with hostile, grotesque creatures emerging from a hole in reality that was created by an experiment gone awry.

The player must survive long enough to fight off these creatures and live to see the day when they can get to the source of the monstrous zombies and close off the hole for good. The creatures come in increasingly terrifying waves, and it is up to the player to use their surroundings and weapons to fight off each one.

5 Dreadhalls

Dreadhalls prides itself on being a "new kind of immersive horror," telling players that they'll truly believe they are in a dark, damp dungeon that has horrific surprises lurking around every corner. As the description entails, the game is set in a maze-like dungeon that is randomly generated each time the player spawns in, making each experience different and truly capturing the fear of the unknown.

Similar to many survival-horror games, the only weapons the player is provided is their stealth, giving them no weapons to fight back against the monsters that lurk within the dungeon. The goal of the game is to find the exit to the dungeon within the wandering halls, but only the bravest of players will be able to make it there.

Calling all VR fans who enjoy zombie outbreak/apocalypse games, because oh boy have we found the game for you. Contagion VR: Outbreak has been built specifically for VR, meaning that its range of movement and mechanics are both true-to-life and fluid with the motion controls for VR.

The game throws you into an immersive world where a zombie outbreak has begun tearing down life as we know it. Each of the four main missions has players controlling a different character, protecting their loved ones, becoming invested in their lives, and seeing the story of the zombie outbreak unfold from different perspectives throughout the game's world.

2 A Chair In A Room: Greenwater

While many horror games for VR are often survival-horror or in-your-face jumpscares meant to make the bearer of the VR headset's heart leap into their throat, not many focus on the golden opportunity for psychological horror in VR. That said, A Chair In A Room: Greenwater does this beautifully, creating an immersive and truly terrifying experience for all that dare to play it.

The game is set in America's Deep South with players assuming the role of Patient No. 6079, a new resident of The Greenwater Institute that has no recollection of who they are or what they did to be admitted to the ward. However, haunting visions that piece together the story begin to terrorize the protagonist, with only the medication that the doctor's supply being able to ward them off.

1 Exorcist Legion VR

Hailed as one of the most disturbing experiences for the VR platform, Exorcist Legion VR is certainly a must-play for any and all players searching for a horror experience that will stay with them long after they've taken off the headset.

The game intertwines five stories that the player will get to see through, encountering a variety of chilling demonic entities, hidden artifacts, and exorcism tools. Exorcist Legion VR is a masterfully weaved puzzle, action, and mystery game that takes place in a variety of atmospheric settings which allow the player to truly become immersed in each of the five stories they'll get to experience.
