Many games need to be run on competent engines that help these titles unleash their full potential. While the game engines available to the public are pretty great to use in their own right, there are times when certain games need to be developed with in-house engines to allow for some truly unique gameplay that simply couldn't be possible on the otherwise common engines. Frostbite is one such engine developed by DICE that EA has acquired for use on all of their titles.

The sheer flexibility of this engine can be seen in the fact that everything from EA's annual sports games to the action-adventure titles it has released in modern times is all developed in the Frostbite engine. Here are some of the best games made within this engine that fans absolutely adore.

7 Dragon Age: Inquisition

The first game that comes to mind when people talk about the Frostbite engine is Dragon Age: Inquisition. A lot of modern games developed by BioWare have used this engine, with Inquisition easily being their best title by a country mile.

Dragon Age: Inquisition documented the journey of a player-created Inquisitor who traverses the land of Thedas in order to close the many rifts that have popped up all over the world. It's a beautiful title with engaging gameplay that made the most of the Frostbite engine.

6 Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons took everyone by surprise when the game was launched. The idea of piloting starfighters in space to take down enemies seemed like a gameplay loop that would wear thin and become repetitive, but the game proved everyone wrong upon release.

The single-player content of the game might've been lacking, but that's a small complaint for an otherwise brilliant title. This game shows just how malleable the Frostbite engine is, with Star Wars: Squadrons looking absolutely gorgeous as well.

5 FIFA 22

It's still hard to believe that the FIFA games have officially switched over to the Frostbite engine. It's quite possible that the Journey mode might not have been possible if it wasn't for the technical revolution brought about by this engine.

FIFA 22 is the latest game in the series that brings its fair share of technical and gameplay advancements along with it. The lack of a story mode definitely hurts, but the tried-and-tested gameplay that has been refined to a T in FIFA 22 more than makes up for it.

4 Need For Speed (2015)

Need for Speed's 2015 reboot attained a pretty mixed reception when it was released. However, over time, reception towards the game has become positive once people got over the annoying always-online nature of the game.

The amazing atmosphere of the city at night coupled with a slew of great cars and races made Need for Speed 2015 an absolute blast. The fact that this game was developed on the Frostbite engine is a pretty surprising fact indeed.

3 Battlefield 1

With the later games in the series being nowhere near as warmly received as Battlefield 1, it's easy to see why this title still has a pretty sizeable player base to this day. Fans who want to play through an exciting (albeit brief) campaign and enjoy some pulse-pounding gameplay will have a great time playing through Battlefield 1.

2 Need For Speed Heat

While the reboot of the Need for Speed series has seen a fairly mixed reception over time, there's no denying that Need for Speed Heat was a return to form for the series. The final title by Ghost Games is a brilliant title that harkens back to the good old days of Need for Speed games having a wealth of cars, customization options, races, and challenging gameplay that doesn't become too unfair.

Fans of racing games will have a great time powering through the content in Need for Speed Heat. It might not be the most groundbreaking racing title to come out in some time, but Need for Speed Heat is still the best title in the series to have come out in quite some time.

1 Star Wars Battlefront 2

Star Wars Battlefront 2

Most people would be surprised to see Star Wars Battlefront 2 on this list. The game didn't exactly launch with a ton of content, with its pay-to-win mechanics drawing the ire of many gamers who absolutely hated these horrid mechanics that felt like a slap in the face of Star Wars fans who didn't want to be exploited simply because they loved this series.

However, after the debacle on Reddit, EA and DICE decided to buckle down and address all the player complaints surrounding Star Wars Battlefront 2. The end result is a game jam-packed with content that has a sizeable player base even now and some engaging gameplay that fans of Star Wars will have a great time with.
