The most mobile characters in the Fire Emblem series, flying units are able to traverse any type of terrain with ease. Whether a flier is a more sturdy Wyvern Lord or an agile Pegasus Knight, flying units allow players to quickly navigate maps and can often even help move other units around a map with great speed.
Across the franchise, flying units have always been notably strong, with fliers making up many of the strongest characters in given entries in the series. So today, we're going to examine the best of the best the Fire Emblem series has to offer in the realm of aerial combatants.
10 Cormag
Cormag of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is the perfect example of what makes flying units in The Fire Emblem franchise so powerful. A Wyvern Knight with solid base stats and growth rates, Cormag is an excellent combat units who can both deal heavy damage and take a hit.
Like many of his contemporaries, Cormag's excellent mobility allows him to easily traverse maps and be exactly where a player needs him to be, and can ferry less mobile units around using the rescue mechanic.
9 Constance
One of the Fire Emblem: Three Houses characters introduced in the game's Cindered Shadows DLC, Constance is recruited as a member of the incredible Dark Flier class.
The only character in the game who is a Dark Flier by default, Constance fixes a major problem that plagues the majority of magic users in Three Houses: low movement. As a flying magic user, Constance is able to reliably attack foes from afar with magic, even having access to Bolting, whilst being able to easily position herself on a map.
8 Palla and Catria
Two of the three original "Pegasus Sisters," Palla and Catria have appeared in numerous entries in the series such as Shadow Dragon and Shadows of Valentia, and are each excellent albeit similar units. Within the games which they appear, it's quite slim pickings when it comes to usable flying units. Luckily, both Palla and Catria join players armies with solid base stats and growth rates, and can serve as some of the most worthwhile units in a player's army.
7 Tanith
While Tanith is decent enough pre-promoted unit in her own right, she makes her way onto this list due to her incredible personal ability: Reinforce.
In addition to the already phenomenal mobility one would expect from a flying unit, Tanith is capable of summoning numerous yellow units that can be directed and partially controlled by the player. These units can be utilized in numerous ways, offensively and defensively, and are also Pegasus Knights themselves.
6 Melady
One cannot discuss powerful flying units in Fire Emblem without bringing up Melady from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. Recruited roughly halfway through the game, Melady immediately makes a major impact on a player's army due to her phenomenal blend of bases and growths. Notably quick and potent with any weapon she's equipped with, Melady is one of the most impressive Binding Blade units in combat, and she just so happens to also be one of the most mobile units in the game as well.
5 Claude
One of the three potential lords of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Claude is the first main protagonist in the series to be given a flying mount by default.
While the freeform nature Three Houses character customization makes characters more difficult to analyze than characters from other entries in the series, Claude's personal classes the Wyvern Master and Barabosa are beyond excellent. Paired with Claude's personal ability that allows him to navigate through enemies as if they weren't there, similarly to the Pass ability, and Claude is not just one of the best flier's in Fire Emblem, but one of the best lords as well.
4 Reyson and Leanne
While not traditional flying units like the other entries on this list, Resyon and Leanne in are each incredible units in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. While these units are incapable of dealing damage, they serve the role of dancers, able to reinvigorate other units, allowing them to move and attack an additional time each given turn. While these types of units are excellent in each Fire Emblem game, as Heron Laguz, Reyson and Leane have the ability to fly over any type of terrain, providing additional flexibility.
3 Camilla
Moving onto the last three entries of this list, each of the following units are each some of the best units in their respective games.
A member of the Nohr royal family in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Revelations, Camilla is a Malig Knight with phenomenal base stats and growth rates alike. While Camilla can use magic similarly to the previously mentioned Constance Camilla also has excellent physical offense and even possesses high durability. As long as she is able to stay clear of enemy archers, Camilla is one of the most incredible and versatile units in Fates.
2 Caeda
Easily one of the most integral units in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Caeda is a Pegasus Knight players have access to from the very beginning of the game. While Pegasus Knights are traditionally balanced through lackluster offense to offset their excellent movement, Caeda's personal weapon, the Wing Spear more than makes up for this. Effective against armored units and mounted units, Caeda can easily finish off Shadow Dragon's hordes of enemy cavalry with ease, and remains one of the most potent units players have access to over the entire duration of Shadow Dragon.
1 Haar
While Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is structured in a manner in which the perspective changes frequently, switching between numerous armies, each containing their own distinct units. Despite this structure, Haar is a character who player's have access to quite frequently, being deployable in more than half of the chapters in the game.
This couldn't be better for players, as Haar is easily one of the most useful characters in the game. Toting incredible offensive and defensive capabilities alike, Haar can single-handedly make a huge difference of the outcome of a chapter. Whether he's being used to reposition other units, quickly remove a problematic enemy, and hold the front lines, Haar can handle it.
