Players looking for strong Pokemon to add to their team will find them in Flying-type Pokemon. Flying-type is home to some of the series most powerful monsters, and with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's Grand Underground, players have even more opportunity to catch the Pokemon type of their choosing.

Updated March 28th, 2022 by Russ Boswell: There quite a few Flying-types for players to hunt down in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Many of them offer solid benefits for players and there are more than a few that would make great additions to any roster heading into the late game. With the addition of the National Pokedex it can be even more difficult for players to sift through the Flying-type choices to find what pieces may best fit their overall squad. To help figure that out, here's a better look at the best Flying-type Pokemon in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The following list has been updated to include additional entries for some of the best choices that players can capture when slotting a Flying-type into their team.

12 Skarmory

Skarmory flying in mid-air in the anime

Players that want to get their hands on a Flying-type that has a little more defense to it may want to consider Skarmory. Its dual typing with Steel gives it some solid resistances while also beefing up its defensive stat. Although it's still 2x weak to Fire and Electric, Skarmory affords some pretty nice type coverages and can even without one-hit-KOs thanks to its sturdy ability. It has access to a wide array of useful Steel and Flying-type moves that make it pretty useful in certain situations.

The only downside is that Skarmory's Hidden Ability causes its defense to drop when struck with a physical attack (it receives additional Speed instead). It also has a lower stat total than the rest of the Pokemon featured on this list. Still, it's an interesting pivot for anyone that is looking for a particular type of Flying Pokemon and can fit the bill in the right hands.

Skarmory's Stats:

HP: 65

Attack: 80

Special Attack: 40

Defense: 140

Special Defense: 70

Speed: 70

Total: 465

11 Scyther (Pokemon Brilliant Diamond Exclusive)

Generation 1 players would be excited to see how far Scyther has some since its origins. The dual Bug and Flying-type Pokemon is actually pretty powerful in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and has access to a wide array of moves via leveling up and TM. It also boasts some solid stats thanks to its base total of 500, with some solid Speed to keep it ahead of its opponents. Scyther can be a great addition to the team for those looking to slot a Flying-type to their roster.

To find a Scyther, players will need to travel to Route 229. Scyther can be encountered here during any time of day but its spawn rate is rather low, making it a very rare sight. Thankfully, it can also be encountered in the Grand Underground, from the very start of the game.

Scyther's Stats:

HP: 70

Attack: 110

Special Attack: 55

Defense: 80

Special Defense: 80
