Pokemon Luxray
  • HP: 80
  • Attack: 120
  • Defense: 79
  • Sp. Atk: 95
  • Sp. Def: 79
  • Speed: 70

Luxray is among the most notable Pokemon in the fourth generation and the franchise as a whole. Its majestic yet imposing appearance hints at the potential this Pokemon holds. While Luxray's stats seem lackluster at first glance, it proves to be a more than capable physical attacker. It has a great Attack stat and a multitude of moves to boast. Luxray's only weaknesses are its dismal Speed stat and overall poor defenses. However, these downsides are near-negligible with the right build.

Players cannot catch a Luxray in the wild; instead, they must acquire and train a Shinx or a Luxio. These pre-evolutions of Luxray appear throughout the game, but are most commonly found on Route 203, Route 202, and Route 204. Luxray evolves from Luxio starting at level 30, meaning that training is relatively simple. However, if players wish to acquire a Luxray sooner, they may capture a high-level Luxio in the Grand Underground, in the Whiteout Cave, Sunlit Cavern, Spacious Cave, or Grassland Cave.

Guts Physical Sweeper Build

  • Item: Flame Orb
  • Ability: Guts
  • Nature: Adamant
  • EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Speed

This build capitalizes on Luxray's physical attacking prowess and its Hidden Ability, Guts. This unique trait boosts Luxray's Attack by 1.5x whenever it is afflicted with a Status Effect. Moreover, Guts completely ignores the physical damage reduction inflicted by Burn. Thus, this build grants Luxray all the benefits of its Ability with only a few downsides. Moves like Wild Charge and Facade work well to compliment this build and further Luxray's physical sweeping capabilities.

4 Pachirisu

  • HP: 60
  • Attack: 45
  • Defense: 70
  • Sp. Atk: 45
  • Sp. Def: 90
  • Speed: 95

Pachirisu is one of the most beloved Pokemon of the fourth generation. Its cute and cuddly appearance causes many to underestimate its capabilities. Pachirisu was a part of a champion doubles team in the 2014 Pokemon World Championship. While its stats may be downright terrible, Pachirisu possesses moves perfect for supporting others; thus, it is quite possibly the best Pokemon to use in double battles. However, Pachirisu still requires a balanced team to use to its maximum potential.

Pachirisu is an exceptionally simple Pokemon for players to obtain, as it appears relatively early and does not need to evolve. Players can easily find a Pachirisu at Valley Windworks, Route 205, and Fuego Ironworks. However, if players wish to acquire a high-level Pachirisu, they must search elsewhere. At Whiteout Cave and Spacious Cave in the Grand Underground, players can discover a Pachirisu anywhere from level 16-63, thus, making training far less strenuous.

Volt Absorb Support Build

  • Item: Sitrus Berry
  • Ability: Volt Absorb
  • Nature: Impish
  • EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Sp. Def

This build utilizes Pachirisus access to supportive moves like Super Fang and Follow Me. By training its HP and defenses, Pachirisu can effectively endure hits directed at its allies. In addition, it can debilitate or weaken foes, making them easier to finish off. So long as Pachirisu remains in the field, a trainer can win nearly any double battle regardless of the odds or setbacks.

3 Rotom

  • HP: 50
  • Attack: 50
  • Defense: 77
  • Sp. Atk: 95
  • Sp. Def: 77
  • Speed: 91

Rotom is one of the best-known Pokemon of the fourth generation and beyond. While alone it is impressive, Rotom's fame comes from its potential to possess electronics. This power makes for many uncommon, powerful type combinations. So, while Rotom's stats are lackluster, its potential typings do well to make up for it, making it one of the most versatile Pokemon of the franchise. However, determining what type Rotom should be is a difficult task.

Rotom is a unique Pokemon and, as such, can only be acquired in one particular location, the Old Chateau. Moreover, players must follow a specific process to encounter Rotom. During the nighttime, they must visit the Old Chateau and interact with a TV. Upon doing so, a Rotom will attack players, allowing them to capture it. Should players be successful, they will acquire a Secret Key meant to unlock a hidden room at the Team Galactic Eterna Building. Within the covert area, several appliances can change Rotom's form.

Wash Rotom Pivot Build

  • Item: Leftovers
  • Ability: Levitate
  • Nature: Timid
  • EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Speed

This build takes advantage of Wash Rotom's Electric/Water and Levitate ability, allowing it to be an effective Pivot. This particular typing grants it no weaknesses besides Grass. Thus, Rotom-Wash can switch out constantly with little risk of being knocked out. Moves such as Volt Switch and Pain Split compliment this build well, furthering its potential.

2 Magnezone

Pokemon Magnezone
  • HP: 70
  • Attack: 70
  • Defense: 115
  • Sp. Atk: 130
  • Sp. Def: 90

However, Magnezone needs to be used with caution to avoid unfavorable circumstances.

Players cannot catch a Magnezone in the wild; instead, they must acquire and train a Magnemite. Players can find a Magnemite in several locations: in the Grand Underground in the Whiteout Cave, Spacious Cave, Icy Cave, Glacial Cavern, or in the overworld at Fuego Ironworks. Magnemite evolves into Magneton at level 30, and evolving Magneton into a Magnezone requires a Thunder Stone. Players can easily find this item behind the Vista Lighthouse in Sunyshore City.

Magnet Pull Special Sweeper Build

  • Item: Leftovers
  • Ability: Magnet Pull
  • Nature: Timid
  • EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Speed

This build utilizes Magnezone's Ability Magnet Pull to trap popular Steel-types like Ferrothorn. In conjunction with its phenomenal offense and defense, Magnezone can effortlessly eliminate these foes. In other circumstances, it acts as an effective Special Sweeper that can endure numerous hits. Moves such as Iron Defense and Teleport work to preserve Magnezone so that it can continue sweeping.

1 Electivire

  • HP: 75
  • Attack: 123
  • Defense: 67
  • Sp. Atk: 95
  • Sp. Def: 85
  • Speed: 95

Electivire is the Electric-type counterpart to Magmortar and one of the fourth generation's most notable Pokemon. It is just as effective as its appearance suggests. Electivire's well-rounded stats and expansive movepool make it a formidable mixed attacker. This quality makes it significantly unpredictable and difficult to counter in battle. However, its lackluster abilities offer niche benefits that rarely come into play.

Players cannot catch Electivire in the wild; instead, they must acquire and train an Elekid. To find an Elekid, players must venture to one of several locations in the Grand Underground: Whiteout Cave, Stargleam Cavern, Glacial Cavern, or Dazzling Cave. Elekid evolves into Electabuzz at level 30. However, evolving Electabuzz into an Electivire requires an Electirizer. Players must trade an Electabuzz holding an Electirizer to evolve it, meaning they need a trusted trade partner.

Mixed Attacker Pivot Build

  • Item: Life Orb
  • Ability: Motor Drive
  • Nature: Naive
  • EVs: 4 Atk / 252 Sp. Atk / 252 Speed

This build utilizes Electivire's Ability Motor Drive and expansive move list to counter Electric-type opponents. Switching in against these foes allows Electivire to negate Electric moves and gain a Speed boost, thus allowing Electivire to counterattack opponents with a fitting attack. This build benefits from moves like Volt Switch and Ice Punch.
