IPs collaborating with crossovers involving characters is not uncommon, especially given the success of Fortnite whenever it adds another licensed character to its already bloated roster.

Crossovers give the chance to experience a beloved character in a brand-new franchise and in a brand-new way, or discover a new favorite from the crossover with a favored game. This year featured a number of them, and here are just a few to showcase what this year had to offer.

8 Fortnite X My Hero Academia

Fortnite is no stranger to crossovers, the popular battle royale host to hundreds of video game, anime, comic book and movie characters. From Halo to Spider-Man, Resident Evil to Dragon Ball, and Street Fighter to Star Wars, Fortnite has a cross-over to appease everyone.

2022 saw Deku from the popular superhero anime My Hero Academia join the fray, bringing with him the Hero Training Island map and a whole host of themed rewards that will no doubt attract fans.

7 Call Of Duty: Warzone - Operation Monarch

Call of Duty: Warzone allows Call of Duty fans to experience their favorite FPS in a brand-new way by jumping on the battle-royale bandwagon, pitting players against each other to see who can shoot their way to victory.

In May 2022, a limited-time crossover was introduced, allowing players to assume control of the fearsome titans King Kong and Godzilla in the aptly named Operation Monarch event. New challenges and modes of play including air and sea combat came with the event, bringing a fun and exhilarating spin to the game for the short duration of the event.

6 Fall Guys X Street Fighter

Similarly to Fortnite, Fall Guys is no stranger to introducing licensed skins to deck your bean character in, having previously collaborated with hugely popular IP's such as NieR: Automata, Sonic the Hedgehog and Cuphead.

2022 saw Fall Guys collaborate with Street Fighter, bringing in the iconic skins of Cammy, Ryu and Akuma to the roster. It seems the list will only grow with announcements of what will be added next to the colorful and kooky multiplayer platform.

5 Disney Speedstorm

Though now pushed back to 2023 having missed its initial release date this year, Disney Speedstorm still revealed a tantalising look into its roster of characters, maps, as well as its high-octane gameplay.

With Disney having acquired so many IP's over the years, Disney Speedstorm will certainly be a crossover to look out for with characters from Disney, Pixar and Marvel all competitively burning rubber on the themed racetracks to see who can come in first place and prove themselves the superior racer.

4 MultiVersus

An impressive diverse of characters and the question of what if Jake the Dog could beat Batman results in MultiVersus, a free to play fighting game in the similar vein to Super Smash Brothers with its exciting action and 2D frontal camera view.

MultiVersus brings together characters from comics, movies, games and TV shows all equipped with their own special moves themed to match them, setting an impressive example for what a crossover game can achieve, and should definitely be watched for in the future with the promises of more characters to come.

3 Free Fire X Assassin's Creed

The mobile battle royale Free Fire saw more popularity with their Assassin's Creed crossover back in March. The Assassin's Creed crossover, called Creed of Fire, brought skins including the iconic white peaked hood, the hidden blade and a brand-new game mode for player to enjoy, the aptly named Lone Wolf Strike Out.

In this game mode, the player pool size is reduced to eight players, but each player has 3 lives as opposed to one. The objective is for one player to wear down the lives of the other competitors until they are the last one standing, encouraging a more calm and tactical approach befitting of an assassin.

2 PUBG X Dead By Daylight

PUBG treated its fanbase to a spooktacular surprise back in October by announcing a crossover event with the famed horror multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight, the latter of which is no stranger to crossovers by including countless iconic killers and survivors from horror movies and games.

The PUBG and Dead by Daylight crossover introduced new cosmetics available to buy in the in-store game as well as a terrifying game mode in celebration of Halloween to emulate the experience of Dead by Daylight with hide-and-seek gameplay.

1 Dead By Daylight: Project W

Dead by Daylight added more legendary characters to their already impressive roster with the Project W DLC, as a nod to Wesker's Resident Evil lore. Project W featured Albert Wesker as the killer with his usual slick-backed hair, sunglasses, and of course the power of uroborus as his unique killer power. Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers joined the every-growing list of survivors, bringing new generator and healing perks to aid fellow survivors during trials.

With this being the second Resident Evil crossover with Dead by Daylight it is possible there will be more collaborations in the future to look forward to, as Resident Evil has a wealth of characters to choose from.
