Capture the flag is a classic game mode that is commonly seen in a wide variety of first-person shooters. The mode is usually played with two teams of players, each team attempts to infiltrate their opponent's base to take the flag and return it to their own base to score a point while also defending their own flag.

Many other titles be it FPS or not have continued this tradition of capture the flag game modes. These are by far the games with the best of the mode for being the most interesting or the most similar to the original capture the flag design.

8 Brawlhalla

In this free-to-play fighting game, players have a variety of game modes they can enjoy. Capture the flag is one of them which players can either select in Custom Online Matches or it also has the possibility to show up as the Brawl of the Week for people to compete in.

This mode is set up as a three-vs-three where players commonly take on the strategy of one runner, one chaser and one protector. All heroes in this game mode are given the same stats to disallow an advantage and therefore players must work together in their teams to be the first to score three points on an incredibly short map.

7 Tanki

As one of the main game modes of this tank based game, Tanki's capture the flag takes the traditional game mode and puts a twist to it. Every player controls a heavily armored tank that makes it a lot harder for players to evade their opponents.

A team must either capture seven flags or have captured the most in seven minutes in order to be crowned as the champions of the match. It is important for teammates to be protected as being a team player will help push that flag to where it needs to go to be successful. Though a player shouldn't be afraid to go rogue and distract the enemy.

6 Quake 3 Team Arena

Quake 3 also mimicked the traditional capture the flag game style, with the original Quake 3 Arena only having a couple of maps for players to fight over. However, with the addition of Quake 3 Team Arena some new roles and maps were included.

These new roles included Ammo Regen which allowed players to regenerate their ammo, Scout which made the player faster, Guard that gave the player more HP at the start and regenerating health and finally Doubler who had double damage for every shot they took. This combined with the increased number of maps made capture the flag an even more enjoyable experience for players.

5 Halo Infinite

There isn't just Capture the Flag in Halo Infinite but variations of the game mode to keep players entertained with it as well as being slightly different from the classic mode. This includes Arena Capture the Flag and BTB Capture the Flag.

The difference between these two modes are the amount of players in them. In Arena there is a total of four players in each team with twelve minutes to capture the flag three times. Meanwhile, BTB Capture the Flag contains a total of twelve players in each team that lasts for fifteen minutes with even more chaos in store as vehicles are also dropped to get around the large maps.

4 Overwatch

Capture the flag was originally not a set game mode in Overwatch until it was added into the arcade. This is because originally it was titled Capture the Rooster and was used as the game event for the Year of the Rooster back in 2017 and was continued since for every lunar new year.

Players had a restricted number of characters they could use. It added another challenge to teams on how they would set up a defense as well as having players whose key role was to quickly run to grab the flag without getting caught in enemy fire.

3 Titanfall 2

Capture the Flag in Titanfall 2 works very similar to the traditional capture the flag game mode though this title adds the addition of huge almost unstoppable mechanical titans. However, there are some limits.

A player cannot pick up a flag when in their titan and if they try to enter it with the flag they will drop it. These players can still ride on top of other teammates titans making for some exciting moments as they plow through enemies to cash in that point. Titanfall 2 also added a more fast-paced version of this game mode which supported Live Fire maps.

2 Team Fortress 2

Similar to Overwatch, capture the flag in Team Fortress 2 is made that much better due to the freedom to pick between different classes of characters such as the Scout, Engineer, Spy, and many others.

However, players will not be waving around a giant flag when paying TF2 but instead trying to steal intel from the opposing team. When carrying this briefcase certain classes will not be able to use their abilities or be healed to make the game fair which is why players cannot rely on strictly their skills to help them survive but instead rely on their teammates to protect them.

1 Call Of Duty

As one of the most loved first-person shooters, capture the flag is a fan favorite of many players of Call of Duty besides Team Death match. It has been a staple for the game since Call of Duty: United Offensive and therefore many players have expected to see the mode included. This was also an issue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 where the game mode was temporarily removed but then added once more after player complaints, it has been seen in every game since.

Although compared to other capture the flags on the list this is one of the most nostalgic experiences of the mode that many players may have experienced first before exploring it in other games.
