At long last, the Legendary Super Saiyan Broly has finally descended upon Dragon Ball FighterZ. Broly is a very strong character with super armor moves, command grabs, and a plethora of ways to deal lots of damage to his opponents. Make sure to remember, practice makes perfect - just ask the nine year old who went undefeated at EVO this year.

Notation Guide

This guide will use the standard notation guide for Arc System Works fighters. For those who don't know, directions in ArcSys games are notated with a number system based on the number pad on a keyboard. 1 through 9 on the keypad represents the directions on a joystick. Of course, this is only specific to Dragon Ball FighterZ and not any other upcoming Dragon Ball games.

Default controls will be used to represent buttons as well.

Light Attack (L) = Square (PS4) / x (XB1)

Medium Attack (M) = Triangle (PS4) / Y (XB1)

Heavy Attack (H) = Circle (PS4) / B (XB1)

Normals

Broly has several notable normals to be aware of that are going to be using a lot for those that decide to play him.

5L = Good range but is the slowest standing jab in the game at 10 frames of startup.

2L = Quick 6 frame jab that causes a soft launch that will affect combos

5M = Slow start up, moves Broly forward, very good range

2M = Stomp attack that can be used 4 times in a row

5H = Shoulder tackle rush that is very similar to Android 16's standing heavy. Causes a wallbounce and the button can be held for more range and damage. Has super armor.

6H = A command normal that is a true command grab that is also special cancellable and can be used to follow a blockstring for pressure.

j. 2H = 2H in the air. An air to air command grab that chucks the enemy to the corner and does an automatic follow up attack if it connects.

2S  = Command normal beam attack, cancellable.

Assist = Broly will jump on screen and perform his Raging Quake special move. It reaches fullscreen, and is great for extending combos and applying pressure in neutral.

Special Moves

Raging Quake - QCF + L/M/H = Also usable in the air. Broly will jump and crash towards the ground causing a shockwave very similar to the Hulk's Gamma Wave special move in Marvel vs. Capcom. Good for applying pressure from far away and can be followed up with a Vanish for a combo.

Eraser Blow - QCF+S = Throws a ki blast into the air up and diagonally. Connecting up close will start an automatic follow up that makes Broly switch sides. Has super armor.

Gigantic Fury - QCB+L/M/H = Command grab. Will cause a wallbounce if done near the corner that can be followed up for a combo. The Medium version is an anti-air grab, and the Heavy version allows for combos from midscreen.

Gigantic Heave - QCB+X = Off the ground grab. Can grab the opponent off the ground after a sliding knockdown. Great for extending combos.

Super Moves

Gigantic Charge - QCF+DR = Broly's first level 1 super and also Broly's DHC super. Does a big forward tackle that makes Broly switch sides.

Gigantic Impact - QCF+DR = His second level 1 super, only usable in the air. Can change direction up to three times like Yamcha's Spirit Ball super with an additional input. Can press DR one more time to use an extra bar of super meter to deal extra damage.

Meteor Shower - QCF+SD = His third and final level 1 super that is usable in the air and on the ground. Also one of the few invincible level 1 supers in Dragon Ball FighterZ, like Bardock's. Broly has energy blasts explode off of him, then they fall to the ground while Broly can move again. Great for applying pressure and creating mix-ups.

Gigantic Roar - QCB+DR/SD = Broly's level 3 super. Broly gets a damage buff after the super and his top armor will remain off for the rest of the match. The damage bonus appears to be very small, possibly only about a 5% increase to overall damage. Not as bad as some other disappointing Dragon Ball news, but definitely not as much as some players expected.

DBS Broly appears to be a hybrid of DBZ Broly and Android 16. While he doesn't have fast grabs like his DBZ counterpart, he is able to deal lots of damage and harass the opponent with oppressive pressure between his ki blasts, blockstrings, and command grabs. Don't forget, with enough practice, anyone can be a top player performing at a high level like Goichi and Sonic Fox at EVO 2019.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch.
