The Gearbox Software's smash hit Borderlands 3 has been the talk of the shoot and loot community for just shy of five months now. With its explosive gameplay and tongue-in-cheek comedy, the third major installment brings home that familiar adrenaline rush we’ve seen in previous chapters. But narrowing the spotlight onto the art style of the franchise, we’re able to admire the comic book-esque design and the wacky characters Gearbox has given us.

In a little under five months, fans of the new sequence have already taken to the sketchbooks for potential cosplay designs. From upgraded Claptrap gear to the revival of the charming villain, Handsome Jack, artists around the cosplaying craze are crafting to impress. And now, as we take a moment to swipe back through some of the most captivating looks, we’re able to share with you ten of the greatest we’ve seen to date.

Here are the ten best Borderlands 3 cosplays so far.

10 Handsome Jack

Although not precisely featured in physical form in the latest chapter, Handsome Jack is still widely celebrated as the franchise's favorite villain. This means cosplayers are still proudly wearing the threads of the Hyperion President all around the world. Of course, Handsome Jack cosplay dates back to 2012, and since then, we’ve seen countless representations. However, it’s Rhys Strongfork who’s gathered our attention in more recent months.

Rhys has been flying the Borderlands colors for several years now and has mentioned Handsome Jack as being his favorite cosplay. Now, as Borderlands 3 has introduced several new additions to the Vault Hunter roster, it’ll be interesting to see what comes next for the artist.

9 Maya

Kicking off the Vault Hunters with a favorite; the blue-streaked Siren, Maya. Something is daring about our ocean-eyed and mystical heroine that oozes rebellion at first glance. It’s that radiating prowess that hundreds, if not thousands, of people, have tried to steal from head to toe. But now, finally, our lifelike Maya has been found at the deepest corner of social media.

Thankfully, Borderlands developers caught the eye of the artist Shiva Abarai and spread the word of her newfound attire. Now, Shiva is instantly recognizable as the Maya clone who’s dazzled millions across the Borderlands community.

8 Zane

The level of detail in our next Vault Hunter is enough to scare countless ambitious artists into hiding. Perhaps it’s due to the intricate design of the platinum hair, or maybe even the void of black comic style splatters dripping from head to toe. Whatever it is, it’s fair to say Zane isn’t the most straightforward character to cosplay. But for Maul Cosplay – Zane was the chance to rise to a worthy challenge.

Ben (Maul Cosplay) has been taking time to tour with his endless catalog of cosplays. From The Witcher to Cyberpunk 2077, Ben has been working his way through global events in the hope of sharing his work with thousands of fans. And now, as Borderlands 3 strikes the scene, Ben aims to shape himself into Zane and make an even mightier impression.

7 Moxxi

Well, would you take a look at everybody’s favorite mad barmaid. Of course, Moxxi had to make an appearance at one stage or another. And we’re glad she did, to be honest. Borderlands 3 wouldn’t be the same without the livewire that is Moxxi.

Khainsaw Cosplay manages to capture the flirtatious but dangerously spontaneous essence of Moxxi rather beautifully here. And, similar to the video games, she almost screams unpredictability as she stares vacantly out into the sunset. It’s that sort of emotion that we love from a daring cosplay, and Khainsaw seriously brings home the gold for her incredible attempt and outstanding performance.

6  FL4K

FL4K, among the other Borderlands 3 Vault Hunters, is undeniably the mysterious one of the crew. Perhaps it’s his lack of expression due to his masked appearance, or maybe the monster of a build he slumps around with him. Whatever it may be – FL4K is a little different from the usual bag of selectable characters. And yet, fans can’t help but love him.

Thanks to Ginoza Costuming, FL4K was able to break out from the small screen and into the world of overwhelming cosplay. With his perfect combination of colors and fine detail, the mountain of an assassin enters the world and grabs the attention of everybody in the room.

5 Psycho Duo

Borderlands simply wouldn’t be Borderlands if it weren’t for the army of Psychos running left, right and center over the duration of every campaign. That’s why we were eager to locate the best cosplayers who could replicate the iconic enemy with ease. And, at last – we found not one – but two.

Morgana Cosplay and “VOADxProjects” take the tough guy appearance of the villain and transforms it into the most psychotic love story we’ve ever seen. These two devoted cosplayers bring a new edge to the scene that we’d definitely like to see more of.

4 Tyreen

The somewhat likable but most definitely feared villain makes a cutthroat appearance in Borderlands 3 as someone who shouldn’t be toyed with. She’s evidently evil, malicious, and downright violent, but, to some – she’s worthy of bringing to life around the globe.

Alicia Marie, like previous entries, has been in the cosplay scene for many years now. And, in that time, the talented creator has captured the likes of several Borderlands characters. From Maya to Tina, Amara to Tyreen, Alicia has transformed the Gearbox fandom into a playground filled with instantly noticeable stars of the franchise.

3 Rhys

Rhys shot to stardom after the surprisingly brilliant release of Tales from the Borderlands. Since then, more and more fans have been gravitating towards the idea of representing him at future cosplay events. After all, he is devilishly charming and as humorous as his rival, Handsome Jack. Plus, with a stylish twist to the usual Borderlands attire, Rhys almost creates the challenge of stealing his light through ambitious designs.

Storms Cosplays, on the other hand, managed to hit the nail on the head when facing the challenge. Thanks to his excellent work and ability to recreate the comic book art style, Rhys has been able to emerge from his virtual prison and into the likes of cosplaying communities.

2 Lilith

The fan-favorite makes an enchanting return as one of the most powerful Sirens in the world. Lilith, who is one of six female heroes, was able to steal the show when breaking out into the latest installment. So, of course, cosplayers were quick to assemble their next ideas for future events.

Hikari K, who has been following a pretty familiar trail in terms of cosplaying, has been able to craft the wares of multiple characters over the years. But, it’s Lilith who managed to bring us closer to her expanding portfolio. Perhaps it’s the way she stares menacingly at us through the safety of a lens, or maybe the perfect curl of the fiery locks laced around her neck. Whatever it is – Hikari brings it flawlessly.

1 Claptrap

The fact that an artist is willing to not only build a Claptrap model but also risk-taking it overseas for a cosplay event is not only hilarious – but actually inspiring. Of course, someone had to do it eventually. Borderlands wouldn't be the same without the worthless bot who’s been with us since day one.

Ginoza Costuming has once again brought life to the everlasting world of Borderlands. And, it’s this sort of devotion that requires an endless round of applause. Without Claptrap, no Borderlands event would be complete.
