However, these special tattoos often became a part of major storylines and were used to defeat enemies or to summon supernatural powers and increase the characters' superhuman abilities. These are also some of the most impressively designed tattoos in anime that were sometimes inspired by mythology and real-life Yakuza tattoos.

12 Medusa
