On June 26, 2020 presidential candidate and current Vermont senator Bernie Sanders created a Twitch channel. With Bernie being the first presidential candidate to create a Twitch channel, and someone who has already been featured heavily in memes, it's no surprise that the Internet has already started creating Bernie Sanders Twitch memes.

The Bernie Sanders Twitch memes show the politician "playing" various video games, including PlayerUnknown's BattlegroundsDark SoulsBloodborneMinecraftOverwatch, and more. Some of the more prominent Bernie Sanders Twitch memes out there show Bernie Sanders playing obscure Japanese games, like dating simulators and visual novels.

While it seems many would like to see Bernie Sanders stream gameplay on Twitch for the sheer novelty of it, that's unfortunately not the plan. The Bernie Sanders Twitch channel is labeled as "Just Chatting," and his campaign plans to use it to provide live content to supporters about current events and campaign updates. Similar live content will start appearing on Sanders' YouTube and Facebook pages as well, though it's possible there will be some content exclusively on Twitch.

Bernie Sanders appears to be making an effort to appeal to gamers and those in the video game industry. Not only has he started a Twitch channel, but Sanders also recently made the news by pushing for the video game industry to unionize. There is an ongoing debate about whether or not the video game industry unionizing would be a good or bad thing in the long run, but a presidential candidate bringing up the issue is still notable.

While he now has a Twitch channel and has spoken about video game industry unionization, prior to the past month or so, Bernie Sanders didn't have much of a presence in the video game industry at all. That is, with the exception of a Bernie Sanders Kickstarter RPG that hasn't been updated for quite some time, though is reportedly still in development.

Moving forward, it's possible that other politicians will start streaming content on Twitch as a way to appeal to younger voters and gamers. Whether or not this happens in the current election cycle or in a few years remains to be seen, but with Twitch only growing more popular, it seems like an inevitability.
