Director Scott Derrickson shared a clip he filmed of actor Benedict Cumberbatch paying a quick visit to a Manhattan comic book store during a break in filming the 2016 Doctor Strange movie. The clip shows Cumberbatch entering the store in full costume as the Sorcerer Surpreme himself greeting staff and posing for pictures.

Scott Derrickson shared the 'never before seen moment' via his Twitter feed. Filmed during production of the first Doctor Strange Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, the surprise visit goes exactly how one might expect when comic fans come face to face with one of their heroes. Towards the end of the clip Cumberbatch, sticking with Strange's American accent the entire time, cheekily asks if there's a vacancy in case the movie bombs.

Based on Marvel's magical character created by Spider-Man creative Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, 2016's Doctor Strange was a success for the MCU, grossing over $677 million and gaining an 89% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The role was Benedict Cumberbatch's first blockbuster film, though he'd already gained stardom via his role as the titular sleuth in the BBC series Sherlock.  Cumberbatch would reprise his Doctor Strange role in MCU movies, Thor:Ragnarok and the two-parter Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

Before Doctor Strange, Scott Derrickson had directed several horror films including the fifth installment of Clive Barker's Hellraiser series. Originally Derrickson was slated to direct the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness before stepping away citing creative differences but he'll still be involved as an executive producer. One of Derrickson's next projects will co-writing and directing a sequel to classic Jim Henson fantasy movie, Labyrinth.

Doctor Strange is currently available to stream on Disney+ and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set for release in 2022.
