Cozy games have brought players life or farming simulators and RPGs with cute storylines and even more adorable characters. And the Little Witch in the Woods has done just that with their RPG adventure game. Like the name suggests, players are controlling Ellie, an apprentice witch, who is a little too curious for her own good. Players begin on a train heading to their school, but when the train must stop for a short time, Ellie takes this opportunity to explore the woods outside the train. And because of this, she misses the train, leaving the player stranded in the middle of the magical woods.
Thankfully, Ellie is resourceful and finds a witch’s hut in the back of the forest where players will end up staying. This is just the start of many grand adventures. But just because the Little Witch in the Woods is in the cozy genre does not mean that it’s simple. In fact, there are several mechanics that can be challenging for new players.
5 Pay Attention When Potion Making
Unlike most witchy games out right now, the mechanics for Little Witch in the Woods can be difficult if players don’t pay attention well enough. When players are ready to craft a potion, they will need to go to the cauldron found in the Witch’s Hut workplace.
Once there, players will need to look in their journal for the right instructions. There, players will find not only which items they need, but they will also see details on the heat level, and how to stir the potion. For players who are used to the more relaxed games where they just need ingredients will often overlook this detail.
4 Increase Ellie’s Bag Space

Gathering and foraging is a vital key to the game since there is a lot of crafting of potions and candies, but the beginning bag space can be challenging. With eight slots to being with, players will likely get frustrated at how little they can carry, or at least how often they need to go back to the witch’s hut to drop off their gatherings. Thankfully, there is a way to increase the storage space.
Ellie will meet Aurea soon after starting the game, and once Ellie helps her at the village and Aurea properly moves in, players can spend 250 gold coins to open their storage space by 4, giving players a total of 12 spots. Further in, players will be able to spend 500 coins to give them 4 more spaces, giving them a total of 16. While this is a heavy amount to spend, it can help in the long run.
3 Be Home By Midnight
Fans of Stardew Valley will know this rule well. Players, unfortunately, can’t spend all night running through the forest, they will eventually need to go back home and rest. And like Stardew, players who stay out past their curfew will find themselves with less stamina the next day.
Of course, it is not an entirely harsh punishment, but if players don’t stay conscious of time, the stamina depletion will add up until they can barely do anything the next day. And unlike Stardew Valley, players will not be able to fall asleep early in the morning. If players try to interact with the bed to sleep during the day, Ellie will just say she isn’t tired yet.
2 Gather Ingredients By Two
Like most crafting games, it is vital to gather ingredients found around the woods as much as possible to avoid running back and forth when it comes time to craft. Thankfully, it’s pretty simple to gather and forage since most items spawn back quickly. However, players need to keep in mind that most recipes call for two of the same ingredients.
That being said, grab two of the same ingredients when out foraging. While some items are on the forest ground, there are some, like the Maple Herbs, that grow on vines in the Green Forest Plateau, so players should snatch those up whenever they are running through the area.
1 Carry Potions
There are many obstacles that are around the woods, some keeping Ellie from vital parts of the forest that pertains to the story, and others are just keeping Ellie out of exploration territories. Because of this, having certain potions on Ellie will help them get around quickly without having to go back to crafting in the witch’s hut workplace all the time.
The two potions that players should always carry are the Weed Terminating Potions and the Nutrition Potions. The Weed Terminating Potions will help with the prickly vines, while the Nutrition Potions will help with Bird Flowers and grow beanstalks.
