Spiderheck puts laser swords and spiders leg-to-leg as players web-sling around the addictive, gravity-defying, platform battle-brawler arenas that are playable solo or multiplayer, either locally or online. It's brilliantly fun but tough being a spider in Spiderheck, and life often ends quickly in a paintball-splatter-style, squishy mess as players try to grapple against waves of PVE enemies in Survival Mode and against each other in Versus in party-game style madness, or put their battle helmets on for the Tiers of Heck.

Spiderheck by Neverjam has a beautifully thought-out menu and lobby system that immerses players in the environment to help them navigate the controls quickly. Still, it is challenging to get good at the game, but like anything, practice makes perfect, and the more beginner players pick up their web-slinging friend and test out new moves and tips, the better their chances of success.

10 Weapon Of Choice

Various Weapons In Spiderheck

To be in with any chance of surviving as a cute rather than scary spider in Spiderheck, once new players practice the controls in the menu, the first thing they need to do in a match is to grab a weapon and most will discover their preferred weapon of choice.

Weapons can spawn randomly and range from melee weapons such as laser swords, explosives like rocket launchers and mines, and laser-style guns like blasters and full-blown laser beams. Pick up and learn what each type does to learn which is best for different PVE and PVP situations.

9 Drag Weapons

Dragging A Torch In Spiderheck

Dragging weapons or objects is a quick and efficient way of grabbing weapons without necessarily needing to be stood right next to them. Using an Xbox controller, players can press the RB button to quickly drag any pickup-able weapon or object towards their spider telekinesis-style from most distances.

Dragging weapons enables players to beat the rush to the best ones and is also helpful when trying to avoid other players and bugs out on a mission to search and destroy, as players can quickly grab their weapon between web-slinging.

8 Power Leap

Leaping With A Laser Sword In Spiderheck

When players equip a gun or melee weapon in their hairy, spider-legged grasp, they can press and hold the right trigger button on an Xbox controller to power leap into the air. This move is a handy way of surprise-attacking other players or enemies when death-dropping from above, especially with holding a laser sword. It's also a great defensive move to escape from a tight spot.

If players overshoot their jump and hurtle towards the lava-like, danger zone, they can simply web-sling out of trouble to the safety of a platform.

7 Spin Or Waft Laser Swords

Wafting A Laser Sword In Spiderheck

Laser swords in Spiderheck are super cool and fun to use and may remind some players of lightsabers from Star Wars, particularly the double-ended laser swords. It's best to gently waft the laser swords to swot away the fire-fly-like bugs with ease or even spin swords continuously by turning the right stick on an Xbox controller to dominate over spinning wheels or players.

Although they are some of the best weapons in the game, players must time their swings carefully to avoid meeting a splattered demise.

6 Throw Laser Swords And Deflect Blasts

Throwing A Laser Sword In Spiderheck

In Spiderheck, it's also possible to throw laser swords at other players or enemies, which makes for a hilarious and satisfying takedown. If the timing is just right, they can even use the laser sword to waft away and deflect blaster shots, unlocking the 'Like in the Simulations' achievement for hitting a reflected shot.

Throwing laser swords and deflecting blasters is like being the spider-Jedi of dreams when done right and a fun way of using and mastering the various weapons in the game, plus showing off spider-combat skills to other players.

5 Watch Out For Explosives

Explosion In Spiderheck

Whether a beginner player or becoming a more masterful spider, it's essential to watch out for explosives and get out of the way. There are many kinds of weapons in the game which cause explosions, including rocket launchers and throwable mines, so players must be careful when aiming and throwing explosives to avoid the blast.

As Spiderheck is a physics-based game, the force of explosions can also projectile players into the abyss, so it's critical to practice web-slinging to know how to maneuver far enough from trouble.

4 Web-Slinging Skills

Sitting upside down in Spiderheck

When it comes to web-slinging as good as Spider-Man, spiders can go almost anywhere, whether on walls, ceilings, or upside down. Getting to grips with alternating between jumping and slinging is critical, especially when it comes to levels that change or rotate. New players can practice their spider-swinging skills in the menu or lobby before the battle.

When using an Xbox controller, if players keep hold of the right trigger button while web-slinging underneath a platform, they can gracefully spin round and land on the top of the ledge in a pivot landing that would have any gymnast clapping.

3 Be Aware Of Obstacles

Boxes In Spiderheck

Players may sometimes see large boxes dotted about many of the various levels, but these are much too big for spiders to lift. They mainly serve as obstacles to climb up and hide behind, or they can simply get in the way.

Box obstacles are best used defensively to help get away from flying bugs or projectile attacks, as long as players don't end up tripping over themselves too much going past them. Either way, it's good to be aware of their location and avoid them where possible.

2 Make Use of Bounce Pads

Bounce Pads In Spiderheck

In Spiderheck, shooting webs isn't the only way to get around. Players can also make use of the blue-arrowed bounce pads in levels. These can be a handy way to get back into the fight or evade other players and enemies. If players drop weapons onto bounce pads, they will also bounce, making for some fun jumping action.

If players are in danger of falling out of the level into the fiery void below, they can web sling onto a platform with a bounce pad and use it to reposition themselves.

1 Shoot Em'Up

Shooting Weapons In Spiderheck

Apart from the laser swords, one of the quickest ways to take down other players and enemies is to shoot them from a safe distance with one of the various futuristic-style guns. These come in all shapes and sizes from tiny blasters to giant rail-style lasers.

Mastering how to aim is key, especially moving targets, but some shots spread and are likely to catch other players and bugs in the crossfire. This can be beneficial for beginner players getting used to the game until they become more confident with close-range combat.

Spiderheck is available to play now on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, and is free to play on Xbox Game Pass.
