Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a classic rendering of the classic arcade game from the ‘80s. This top-down perspective shooter game lets gamers play as a beautiful maiden and a mischievous raccoon to defeat monsters that are attacking the village.

Players have various power-ups that can drastically change the pacing of the game. They can unleash a barrage of attacks that can decimate enemies, or use magic to protect the maiden as she takes back control of her shrine. The latest Pocky & Rocky release has a number of new characters that are fun to play with. For players new to the arcade shooter genre, here are a few tips and tricks.

Place Pocky diagonally across the golden goblet and launch attacks to quickly destroy him. In his next form, he will charge at players with a rage that cannot be blocked. Curve around him to evade his charges while constantly blasting him with attacks to defeat him.

9 Change Weapons Often During Stages

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined - Change weapons often during the stage - Player collects weapon drop

Pocky has a penchant for punishing her enemies in the game. Players can hit particular groups of foes at once to get weapon drops that provide alternative attacks to the maiden. Primarily, Pocky will attack her enemies with a white paper that spreads out in three ways the further they go.

Players can hit monsters that stick together, such as the red orbs that circle to get weapon drops. The fire weapon provides a much faster attack rate compared to the white paper. Players can also try using the green blades to surprise the creatures with vibrant attacks.

8 Keep An Eye Out For The Purple Fairy

7 Use Special Ability When Outnumbered

Beginners can have a tough time beating the skeletons, clouds, and candles that approach Pocky and Rocky from all directions. It can be especially frustrating to finish off skeletons, only to have them explode into pieces that branch out across the screen.

Players have access to special abilities that can prove to be quite useful throughout the game. Pocky can detonate bombs around her with her special ability to blow up multiple creeps with one attack. Rocky can release a spiral of leaves to hit enemies in every corner of the screen. Don't forget to use these when the situation calls for them.

6 Use The Environment To Plan Attacks

Stages such as The Haunted Shrine and The Enchanted Forest have plenty of environmental objects to help beginners make it through alive. Players can stand behind brick walls to avoid being hit by foes with unexpected attacks.

Certain enemies, such as the woman with the elongated head, can pop out of dark doors to deliver a fatal blow to newcomers. She will also interrupt attacks by sending out blue clouds between her appearances. Beginners can take cover by using unbreakable objects on the map to wait for their turn to strike without losing lives.

Extra Easy mode is made especially for beginners, which can be unlocked after collecting at least 3,000 coins. It can be accessed from the main menu under the Story mode. However, collecting 3,000 coins can be challenging for gamers that haven’t been used to arcade titles.

Players can collect more coins by using a combination of weapons and power-ups. Frequently switch between fire attacks and white paper attacks to maximize the coins that can be gathered by killing monsters. The Extra Easy mode can also be unlocked by completing the game.

The deflect button works against most monsters in Pocky & Rocky Reshrined. Players can use the deflect button to push monsters such as flying fish and red orbs on any level. Pocky uses a wooden stick with a white mesh to deflect projectiles, while Rocky uses his adorable tail to sweep enemies back by using the deflect button.

Boss fights are much easier to finish with a trusty partner who can coordinate attacks.

1 Don’t Lose Heart

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined - Don't Lose Heart - Player is down to the last heart while progressing through the stage

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined has less than ten levels to complete. On Normal difficulty, it can take less than a few hours to finish the Story mode. The game provides four hearts to players at the start of the game, which are depleted every time the player takes a hit from the creatures that are lingering around the sacred shrine.

It can be quite disheartening to lose all the hearts while making progress. Players can hit the picnic baskets that are dispersed around the maps to replenish their hearts in between the action, to help them stay alive longer.

Released on April 21, 2022, Pocky & Rocky Reshrined can be played on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
