Moss was one of the earlier games to release when the PlayStation VR launched. It is also one of its best on the system. It was praised back in 2018 and everyone thought at the time that it was a one-off. The PSVR found success, but questions arose regarding continued support for the platform. After all, Sony’s other side projects received middling support like the PSP and PS Vita.

How likely would a sequel be? Most people thought that chances were low. That’s why it was so shocking to hear that Moss: Book 2 was happening. It was announced out of nowhere and released out of nowhere. So, what else is there to know about this action-adventure game?

8 It Takes Place Immediately After The First, But Don’t Worry

If players never finished or even touched the first game, don’t worry. There is a recap of the story events at the beginning of Moss: Book 2. Also, as story-focused as this series is, it is not one of the main reasons to dive into these VR adventures.

The only thing that may throw players off is that this game assumes players are familiar with the controls. There is not a robust tutorial, unlike in the first game. However, the controls are simple enough that it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

7 Look Around

One of the most important things players should do before playing the game is clear their game space. Moss: Book 2 encourages players to sit down, which may work in some setups. However, in tighter living spaces, standing up may be better.

Standing will also allow players to look around more. Turn around — there may be secrets to find. Also, be sure to peek around corners. The game is like a diorama, which is why it is still one of the most unique VR games out there.

6 Take Breaks

It is also important for players not to exhaust themselves. Take breaks. The game is not that long at all. For most players accustomed to VR games or action games with puzzles in them, Moss: Book 2 should last about four to five hours. It depends on how many secrets players look for and how long puzzles last.

Moss: Book 2 is one of those experiences that is more enjoyable if players savor it. Play for about thirty minutes at a time and then take a break. The break can be for an hour or more or maybe less. Even a ten to fifteen-minute break with water will help make players less dizzy afterward.

5 How To Heal Quill

Depending on upgrades and the strength of enemy attacks, Quill can take two to three hits on average before passing out. Players can grab Quill with the motion controls to heal though. Holding onto Quill for a few seconds will recharge health.

Quill can still be vulnerable in this situation though. So, before attempting the healing process, get Quill behind some cover or far away from enemies. This will ensure Quill won’t die unexpectedly.

4 The Player Can Freeze Enemies

Players will eventually learn that enemies can also be grabbed using the motion controls. There are puzzles in the game that require players to grab beetles and then guide them to switches. If done correctly, these bugs will freeze in place, thus allowing Quill to pass through secret passages.

Freezing enemies can be done while in combat too. For example, freezing a ranged enemy is a good way for Quill to focus on taking out melee troops first.

3 Smash Everything

Moss: Book 2 is a lot like The Legend of Zelda series but in VR. One of the most fun things to do in those games is cut grass and smash pots. That’s what makes Link a secret psychopath. Both of those things can be accomplished in Moss: Book 2 as well.

Grass and pots don’t contain rupees. They instead hold Dust, which can be collected and used to open secret doors. The more Dust players uncover, the more secrets they can discover. One of the earliest doors players can uncover is in the same room where Quill finds the first piece of Glass.

2 Remember Rooms With Secrets

Moss: Book 2 holds some similarities with a Metroidvania. Players will acquire certain abilities that can open up new paths. One of the earliest new powers is a way to manipulate plants.

Players can tap on dead vines to make them grow flowers. This will allow Quill to climb on them. This power can also be used to grow bigger vines to build bridges. Whenever a path or item seems inaccessible, make sure to write it down for later. Taking manual notes, with screenshots, is good advice for most games.

1 Look For White Scratches

Sometimes the way forward can leave players scratching their heads. Moss: Book 2 is not the hardest puzzle game around, but it can be hard to tell where to go, as the diorama-like layout is not always clearly defined.

Look out for white scratches on ledges. This will indicate players can either hoist themselves up and over or that they can shimmy around. Learning to notice these white markings should help save some time in the long run.

Moss: Book 2 was released on March 31, 2022, and is available on PS4 as a PSVR title.
