For some, what the main protagonist of a video game looks like may not be all that important. For others, however, being able to customize the appearance of the character that they're controlling can have a huge impact on the overall experience. Luckily for those players, it's possible to change Bayonetta's costume and overall appearance in Bayonetta 3.

Initially, players will only be able to change the Umbra Witch's hair color, but, as the game goes on, they'll be able to use Halos to purchase new costumes and new costume colors from Rodin’s Treasures. It's even possible to change the color of the frames of Bayonetta's glasses, making Bayonetta 3 one of the most customizable single-player video games around.

In order to change Bayonetta's costume in Bayonetta 3, players will first need to open up the in-game menu by pressing the - button on their Switch controllers. Next, they'll need to use the shoulder buttons to cycle to the "Costumes" tab, which is indicated by a crescent moon icon. Once there, they'll be able to choose which costume Bayonetta wears, the color of her costume and glasses frames, and even the color of her hair.

There are eight different costumes for Bayonetta in Bayonetta 3, the default one being Super Mirror 3. Players will be able to purchase Super Mirror and Super Mirror 2 from Rodin’s Treasures for 4,000 Halos each if their Switch has save data from Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 respectively. For those who don't, these two throwback costumes will become available in Rodin’s Treasures for the same price after completing the main story.

To unlock Super Mirror 0, players will need to buy the old picture book from Rodin's Treasures and then find the keys in the three chaotic rift stages. Doing so will unlock a new picture book-style stage in which players should interact with all three Inferno Flowers until they make a sound. After doing so, they'll be able to backtrack through the stage to find a secret chest containing Bayonetta 3's secret outfit.

The other four costumes, which are named Super Mirror B1-B4 can also be purchased from Rodin’s Treasures for 4,000 Halos each and will gradually become available as players progress through the main story. Players will be able to purchase additional costume colors from Rodin’s Treasures too, with each one costing 1,000 Halos. As with Bayonetta's costumes, more costume colors will become available as players beat more of Bayonetta 3's 14 chapters.

In addition to changing Bayonetta's costume, players will also be able to change Viola's t-shirt, though only after completing the main story. She has nine different cat t-shirts in total, but players won't have the option to change their color as they can with Bayonetta's outfits. Sadly, Jeanne only has one costume at the time of writing, though it's possible that more will be added to the game through future DLC.

Bayonetta 3 was released on October 28, 2022, and is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
