Last month it was announced Ruby Rose would be leaving the role of Kate Kane in The CW's Batwoman due to issues with its long hours and production cycle. While it was previously believed someone would simply take over as Kane due to Warner Bros. assuring it would cast a new LGBTQ actress as Batwoman, apparently there will be a new character helming the show's second season.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed yesterday that the TV show will take on a character called "Ryan Wilder" as Batwoman after Decider publicized a since-deleted casting notice published to Reddit. The character is "nothing like Kate Kane," will be in her mid-20s, and will be a "highly skilled and wildly undisciplined"  fighter who is an out lesbian.

Following Rose's announced departure from the show, The CW removed Batwoman from its 2021 promotional image. Instead, it simply features the Batwoman symbol, as there are clearly still plans to continue the show without its original lead.

While the Arrowverse continues going strong for The CW, more DC Comics shows are being planned on HBO Max with "cinematic production values."

Batwoman is currently airing on The CW.
