With Batwoman currently dangling some impending drama in front of fans after an intense cliffhanger in its most recent episode, now seems like the perfect time to... release some posters? Hey, it's probably a good idea to do it now, especially since there's finally some downtime following a particularly eventful start to the new season. With viewers getting more intimate looks into each of the show's main characters, it's fitting that they all get some time to shine with some high-quality images direct from The CW.

The posters feature all of Batwoman's current leads, including Javicia Leslie as Ryan Wilder/Batwoman, Rachel Skarsten as the surprisingly nuanced villain Alice, Dougray Scott as leader of the Crows security force Jacob Kane, Nicole Kang as his stepdaughter and underground clinic owner Mary Hamilton, Camrus Johnson as Batwoman's steadfast ally Luke Fox, and Meagan Tandy as Crows agent Sophie Moore. Shivani Ghai also gets her own poster as season 2's villain (one of them, anyway) Safiyah Sohail. For those unfamiliar with the show, this might sound like a bit of a bloated cast, but they're all surprisingly well-executed.

Batwoman began with Ruby Rose as the titular superhero. Originally following Rose as Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne's cousin, the show centered on the theme of family, with main villain Alice revealing herself to be Kate's long-lost sister whom everyone assumed had died in a car accident. When Rose left the series after its 1st season due to scheduling difficulties, the writers quickly got to work with a new character taking over the mantle while still keeping everything connected. This resulted in a surprisingly engaging continuation that respects season 1 while being unafraid to make Leslie's new Batwoman her own separate character. Its continued focus on making sure the new hero was also a gay woman like Kate certainly didn't hurt either.

That's not even to mention unexpected surprises like the inclusion of Roman Sionis/Black Mask, played wonderfully by Peter Outerbridge. Alice was enough of a menace in season 1, but now that she's got her own issues to deal with, it's nice to have another entertaining bad guy to keep things interesting. Plus, he also paved the way for Kate Kane to come back, albeit with her memories erased and face completely changed (funny how that works out). Believing she's Sionis' dead daughter due to some expert brainwashing, Kate's future is currently uncertain. But with Krypton actress Wallis Day now playing the role, it's possible she could at least return as a series regular.

The show really came as a surprise regarding how well it handled Rose's departure. With Black Lightning having just reached its series finale, a case could be made for Batwoman as one of the new best shows in the CW's DC Universe. It's got a lot of commentary on social issues like police brutality and LGBTQ+ rights, and it implements these moments well enough that they usually don't feel forced. Combine that with some great interactions between the characters, and baby, they've got a stew going.

Anticipation is high for the next episode of Batwoman, set to air on June 6th, as fans wait with bated breath to know the fate of a certain character after the previous episode's shocking end. So luckily, the wait won't be much longer, and hopefully, everything turns out alright. If not, then it looks like a certain caped vigilante will have some rampaging to do.

Batwoman airs on Sundays on The CW.
