Rare's reboot of the 90s beat 'em up Battletoads franchise released this August and was met with favorable reviews from numerous publications, despite some sticking points such as its lack of online co-op and repetitive enemy variety. That said, the gaming community seems to have latched onto the reboot considering Rare announced it has been played by over a million unique players.

The British game developer put out a blog post yesterday sharing some stats around the game's success since launch, which includes a brand new "accolades trailer" featuring quotes from reviews on different news sites. Rash is apparently the most popular character in Battletoads, according to Rare, while players have collectively died over 80 million times (primarily in turbo bike sections) and gotten over eight million collectibles.

Rare also highlights the winner of the full-game speedrun challenge set up for Game Pass on PC in August: A player named Fuzzyness who beat the game on "Tadpole" difficulty in an hour and 38 minutes. Another congratulations is given to players who have collected the full 1,000 gamerscore available in Battletoads, though at least some of them have used innovative exploits like taping controllers together with chopsticks to unlock certain co-op achievements.

While Battletoads is the primary subject of this blog post, Rare also reminds players that crossover content between Battletoads and its popular title Sea of Thieves is still available to claim. The developer is continually supporting Sea of Thieves with new updates as of this writing, though it has Everwild in development for the next console generation.

Battletoads is available for PC and Xbox One.
