Battlefield has always been one of the more intense gaming franchises, but EA and DICE seem to be doubling down on the visceral action with their new World War 2-Themed shooter, Battlefield 5. DICE gave us a quick peek at this action in the reveal trailer that launched during their Battlefield V event earlier today.

The trailer kicks off with a bang, as a group of soldiers rushes to a house while their vehicle is attacked, losing allies and dodging bullets the entire time. Inside, they engage in close quarters combat with a group of enemies, suffering even more casualties as they climb the building. There's a brief period of respite after clearing the building before a small group of tanks is moves towards the structure. A lone soldier dives out of the window to escape the advancing cavalry and is greeted by one of his previously-fallen allies who has apparently respawned. The camera follows the returning soldier as she hops on a motorcycle and races across the battlefield, debris crashing around her.

The trailer then cuts to the first glimpse of actual gameplay. The scene is highly scripted but does show off some of the pulse-pounding gameplay Battlefield fans have become accustomed to, as well as some fun new animations and movement techniques.

EA didn't show off much gameplay during the reveal event, though fans will be able to get their hands on the game at EA Play in Los Angeles in two weeks. EA did, however, reveal a bunch of new and returning features that'll be making their way to Battlefield V, including War Stories and Operations among other things. One notable omission is the paid Premium Pass, which will not be featured in Battlefield V. The reveal also confirmed the World War 2 setting, which was teased a few days ago.

The internet is sure to draw comparisons to the recent Black Ops 4 reveal, which shared a similar amount of information, though far more gameplay. Battlefield V's reveal certainly had more personality, largely thanks to host Trevor Noah going off-script to poke fun at the devs. More details should emerge for both games at E3 this year, but gamers will have to wait until October to get their hands on the full versions of both games.

Battlefield V will be released on October 19, 2018, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
